Digital TV Cost Cutting Article - Discuss What You've Been Offered

Hi there,
Just tried to phone and cancel Sky on 08442421421, a recorded Indian voice tells me all lines are busy, some music kicks in and after 10 seconds the lines just goes dead. Awful customer service.
Does anyone have a number that gets me through to the relevant department where I can talk to someone from the UK?
Many Thanks,
Nick.
I too would like the number, because quite frankly I've had enough too and I will really call with the intention of cancelling. I've been with them for 10 + years and today got a flier through the door offering me a free HD box if I want to pay £10 p/m for the HD package and £60.00 installation.
As if :mad:0 -
i have been with sky 10yrs in july and today called to cancel. Was told to cancel i need to do so online by going to mysky and filling in an online form - then was told i cant cancel as im in a 12mth contract!! (recently got sky+ box)
I was not offered any deal at all so just had to reduce my package for now so very unhappy!xDebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

i assume it would be a waste of time me getting an HD sky box as i don't have an HD telly....would that be correct?0

I would say yes as you won't notice any difference in quality on a non HD tv, unless you can get a HD install and box for free without having to take on a subscription.
As then you have the equipment in place if you decide later on to get a HD tv and from what I understand you can get BBC and ITV HD for free without paying extra for the subscription.
I think that within a year or two sky will drop the HD subs anyway like they did with sky+0 -
Does anyone realise, that if you sign up for sky+ and multiroom,as an existing customer.
They use your old sky receiver as the multi room box, charge you £10 a month extra, but DO NOT extend the warranty.
But if you are a new customer, you get a completely new system for the same price.
If your box goes pop, then you have to pay £69 to get it fixed or replaced.
Wish i could change but we live in a rural area with no other providers.
Tried talking to sky, but they dont want to know.
Its about time their monopolising was stopped.
ANY COMMENTS?????!!!!????................
I was in the exact same situation this week my self, i got a e-mail saying it would cost 65quid for engineer plus parts, as this was my multi room box i phoned and told them just to cancel it, they offered to fix for half price and i said it's still 30 odd quid more than i want to pay, just cancel it. They then offered to fix for free, result!!0 -
Hi. I have Virgin Broadband M, Tv M+ and phone M and also sky+ tv. After reading this thread I have been on the phone to both for most of the morning to improve my packages. Virgin said they could offer me a wireless router and upgrade to Broadband L for an extra 50p per month (18 month contract). I am happy with this outcome. I had to phone twice to get this deal though. The first guy who answered the call was very unhelpful and rude and just said it would be an extra £40 for the router.
With sky I want to upgrade to hd. The sky employee I spoke to said people who got free installation and 12 month free subscription were selected at random and called by phone or sent letters. I have called them 3 times now and the only deal they are offering is £30 installation and £10 extra hd subscription. I guess I could call again and threaten to cancel but I dont think its right as I have no intention of actually cancelling! I want hd for the world cup so I still have a little time left to wait to see if any better deals come along before then.
It seems like a bit of a lottery as to what deal you get based on who you get to talk to. Also ability to blag seems to have some effect according to past posts on this thread! My blagging skills arent great and I dont think I will be calling sky another time to try my luck. However some persistence does clearly have an effect0 -
I forgot to mention that virgin have also given me free weekday calls after 6p.m. to landlines and virgin mobile. all for 50p extra - i'm well chuffed0

Phoned to cancel sky sports and finally got the offer for HD, free box, install & 6 months HD pack. Only got a bog standard Sky box at the moment, I assume they'll know that so will come with all the right equipment for the upgrade? The dish is on the roof.0

Don't forget that after 12months with SkY all the equipment is yours,so you can ask for it all to be replaced !!!0
