Digital TV Cost Cutting Article - Discuss What You've Been Offered

Just phoned sky to tell them that I wanted a multiroom viewing card. My brother gave me a sky+ box and a neighbour is going to install it in a bedroom.
Out fo the blue the assistant told me I was eligible for an offer (I was waiting for him to try and sell me something then!), he told me instead of £10 a month I would only have to pay £5.03. I asked for what term, he replied 'forever.'
I have no idea why, or if he was just in a good mood, but I ain't complaining!0 -

But look at it this way, Sky don't mind giving you the box or installation free, because they will be making some money out of you from the extra £10 a month that you are tied into for the twelve months. In the past couple of months they have been advertising the box for £49, with installation at £30, giving it away 'free' nets them extra £79 on the deal. they are not losing out!!! Who's to says that later in the year, they are not going to abandon the £10 per month extra charge, when you think the box initially cost £199, anything can happen.
So giving away the Box, installation charge and not charging £10 per month, I consider a "Free" promotion.

This is the offer I want, at the mo have got a bog standard Sky box (no sky plus) and have the basic package plus Sky Sports. I've been with them for years. What's the best phone No and time/day of the week (if any) to call please.
TIA0 -
I have basically the same box and package as you! But I did not ring them, they rang me!
My advice would be to sit tight and wait for the phone to ring, as people are reporting that when they ring Sky they are not being given this deal. I am not sure what the selection procedure is, as it's all ad hoc.
Not much help I'm afraid

Grrrr, sky make me angry! I was on the phone to sky yesterday for over an hour trying to get a good deal. Then they offer me a deal of a free HD box, and £29.99 installation of the box. They also offered me a free upgrade on the phone so I can call abroad for free which saves me a fiver. Would be great if I knew anyone abroad and I only have the landline because of the broadband.
I agree to the deal thinking that this is the best I can get. Then discover that on the website they're offering a better deal of free box, free set up and £50 M&S vouchers. I also discover that some people are getting offered this £10 off HD and some aren't. I phone up and I'm told basically by the rude operator that despite them having £70 per month of my money I'm not a loyal customer and wont be considered a loyal customer until I've been with them for at least 2 years.
I then threatened to cancel to the point that I actually did and at the end of the call the operator then said I need to have a new line installed because they own the line.
How can they own the line? Is there any way around this? I'm kinda hoping that I get the call but I doubt it very much!0 -

Quoting my own thread I just wanted to give an update. As stated in my thread I had cancelled sky completly. I then wrote an email to the complaints department who didn't do much. I then emailed Jeremy Darroch, although he didn't personally reply to the email they offered me:
Free installation
Free HD Box
Broadband reduced by 5.00(GBP) per month
Sky line rental - 50 per cent off for 12 months
6 months free HD mix
Ok maybe the 6 months isn't as good as the 12 months but if they follow virgins lead in scrapping the HD fee then maybe it'll be scrapped in 6 months anyway. Complaining does work0 -
I've just had a phone call from Sky offering me Free Sky HD Box, Free Install and 1st 6 months HD subs, just pay the remaining 6 months @ £10 per month, thing is I only signed up for Sky at the begining of Jan and got free Sky+ Box, Free 'normal' sky box (multiroom), free install and £50 M&S vouchers, I thought I had to have them for 12 months. If I were to take up this offer it would only cost me £60 throughout the year extra and I could have HD on main TV and Sky+ on other TV and am I right in thinking I could just cancel the HD at the end of 12 months if I didn't want to continue paying £10 extra each month and I would be able to keep the HD box for using to record, etc. Also if I decieded to keep our 'normal' sky box and move it to another room would I have to pay another £10 multiroom or does the £10 I pay just now cover any amount of other rooms/boxes.
Thanks in advance0 -
I've been with sky for about 7 months now, paying £66 a month over that time (Sky+ HD, with sports, movies, ESPN)
What are the chances of me getting a half price deal or something if I call up saying this is too expensive? Obviously seven months isn't that long, but haviung paid them over £460 during this time I'm hoping that they will see I'm a good enough customer.Getting married to a wonderful lady on August 10, 2012.
Need to save up, lose weight, reduce my money worries and get back to being the real me! :j0
