Digital TV Cost Cutting Article - Discuss What You've Been Offered

I've just cancelled Sky as they were supposed to come and install a Sky+HD box on Saturday morning. No one had arrived by 3.30pm and after my third phone call finally found out the reason why they didn't come. They couldn't find my house......can you believe that in this age of modern technology!!! What no SAT NAV or A to Z or a Google Map. I was also told that they had rang me for directions which was a pack of lies. I got so annoyed at this lame excuse that I cancelled there and then.
Anyone had any good offers not to cancel - I've had a letter today confirming the cancellation but saying I can re-connect at any time if I call them. They offered me free installation on Saturday but I felt that that was a poor offer under the circumstances.
Oh and they haven't refunded that yet.0 -

Hi All
I have VM BB and Telephone which costs me £22.50 per month for Unlimited Free Calls all the time, plus Cheap International and Mobile Calls, I also have the free basic set top box with this.
But I have Sky+ with Multiroom which is costing me £48.50 per month.
The VM offer is:
The same Telephone Package
The same BB 10mb
And V+ plus upgrading the channels in my free set top box to the same as the V+ box but no Movies or Sports.
~Installation for £49
~Charge pm £49
Do you think this is a good deal? I have tried to get through to Sky but keep getting a message after pressing all those buttons that says there is a technical fault please try again later!

Currently have Standard Sky box - would like to upgrade have done for over ayear now but refuse to pay over the odds for a box and installation, as I have been a customer for over 15 years and have had the full package. Have only ever had one reduced package from them, when I wanted to cancel sports and films.
They have offered me a Sky HD box free with additional payment of £9.75 per month adn installation of £30, which on the face of it looks good. HOwever, not fussed about HD (although I have a HD telly) - Just wanted a Sky + box without multiroom for free and installation at £30 but they won't let me do that Sky + box will cost me £149 !! plus £60 installation.
Any one got any tips0 -
Hopefulshell7.
I have a similar package with VM and SKy as I don't have BT line as it is with VM .
I was going to go over to VM but found I would loose a lot of regional (Welsh) channels on VM as we live in London. Just beware that the VM package only gives you local TV for your area, in case you watch the other channels on SKY like we do...
Anybody know why VM only give local tv for the area you are in while sky give more in the high (not low) 900 channels ?????0 -

Itsmymoney, Sky are doing a current XMAS offer where you get the box for free plus £30 installation but you have to take the Sky movies, but seen as you already have them it won't make much difference, however, a wee idea, I think the t & c's on it just say that you have to agree to take movies for 12 months, and you get the HD+ box for free and pay £30 installation, so if you already pay for the movies and have to no plans to cancel, you're not any worse off, however, you do have the extra £9.75 pm to pay for the HD.
They aren't really doing SKY+ anymore, I was told the other day when enquiring about the same thing, that they are doing away with SKY+ and really have to take HD+, this will be outdone within the next year or so by 3D tv, which they have the boxes for but we can't get tv's in this country yet! weird eh?
You could also phone them up and say you want to upgrade to SKY+ and understand this has to be HD+ then use the old, I can't afford the extra £9.75 a month and see if they'll give you a reduction on your premium channels in the meantime, even if it's to wipe out the £9.75pm for the upgrade. I have an offer from them for Sports half price for 3 months. Don't forget though even if you got Sky+ you'd still have the extra £9.75 pm to pay(or does this still get wiped out by having the two premium channels?)
Good luck. Thanks to all the competition posters.0 -
This is what we currently pay:
Line Rental: £11
Talk Unlimited: £7.95
Non DD Fee: £5
TV XL: £23
BB L: £25
Discount: -£22.50
E-Billing: -£1
Total: £48.45
Now we hardly use the landline so I'm thinking of scrapping the Talk Unlimited, also we used to have M Broadband but I found out that I have to have L to keep getting my discount so they decided to change this with no warning and backdate it to October! Also going to see about getting it on DD but it's hard for me as my income is sporadic.
Not too impressed really, am out of contract again so a call to retentions is coming but just need to compare what other people are paying and how retentions are acting these days.
Will have a read back of this thread too, but any advice also would be welcomed.0 -

You may find if you drop TU you loose the cuurent loyalty discount
I have still got the M BB with my package so don't know why you had to change that.
Why should DD be a problem you have to pay it anyway so just a cash flow issue, save up a few months buffer funds.0 -

We have been with Sky for 9 years, I phoned up Monday night to cancel as my OH has had his hours cut and we cant afford the full package. Told them we wanted to cancel as was just going to have freeview for now, they suggested cutting our package down but I said we mainly watched Sports so if was doing without that wouldnt bother having anything. She then said would I be interested in cutting down to the basic package if they gave me Sky+ free with free installation, I decided to do this and they came and fitted it yesterday. Whether she could tell I really did just want to cancel or it depends who you talk to I dont know.0 -
