hi there folks...i was just wondering...my sky was installed a couple of days ago. i got all channels but free sports and free movies for the 1st 2 months, all for £31.25/month...is there anything i can say to them when i call up in 2 months time (to cancel the sports and movies) that is likely to give me a wee deal? hopefully someone out there will be able to give a wee bit advice...thanks in advance...

Be careful as I think you need to give 30 days notice to cancel your channels. So you may need to cancel within one month not two.
When I tried to cancel last week they tried to get me to call back later as they were busy. I refused and said I would wait, then I got put straight through, another to prevent you cancelling !!

If you ask to cancel your Sky completely you will need to give the 30 days notice as robd831 rightly says but when you just want to downgrade, (from what I read from your post you dont want to totally cancel) you can do this immediately, usually the same day.

I would just tell them that it is too expensive but you really liked having the channels but just cant afford them, if you get a decent chap maybe even try talking about football or something to get friendly with them as each adviser has the means to give you discount to keep you subscribing. He/She should offer you some sort of deal to keep the channels on because its better for sky to get some more money off you rather than none.

    Just for the record...

I have both worked in a call centre/complaints department enviroment dealing with this sort of thing and also worked for sky as an installer for some years, although I do add, these are both not my current employment.

Have any customers that have all channels and HD had any good deals lately? The deal I had has now run out.
  • thanks for the advice folks...yes clutcher , i dont want to cancel the whole thing, i just got it a couple of days ago! i'm only talking about when i have to phone them in 2 months time to cancel the sports/movies which i have free for the first 2 months...see? lolll...i think i'll take your advice and plead poverty but tell them that we all really liked them and how much it is a pity i cant afford them at the full price , lolll..we'll see what happens anyway...thanks again...
  • Hi,
My dad's had a Sky box for a about five years but cancelled his monthly subscription a couple or three years ago. He has since been able to watch a limited amount of digital channels through the box - BBC3,Four, Sky News etc - without paying the monthly fee.

In the last couple of weeks these channels have become scrambled.... is there any way he can still watch them without paying monthly subs?

He is happy to pay a small one-off fee to continue using the Sky box, but is reluctant to go have to change provider - he doesn't live in an area covered by Freeview or Virgin.

Please help as you will be making a senior citizen with mobility problems (that's my dad, not me) very happy.

Sky changed the viewing cards a cople of months ago,I believe this may be why the said stations are now scrambled.I think as you say for a one off fee you can obtain a 'free sat' card from Sky.

Incorrect, these channels are all free to air, no card is required, I believe the Sky card will only open Sky3 now.
