See the following from Sky.com/replacecard, I have tried to obtain a replacement card online on Sky's website for my old viewing card which I am not currently subscribing to Sky with, they are asking for £20. I am going to leave it as I am not too bothered about loosing few channels:

What happens if I don't get a new viewing card?

If you do not replace your Sky viewing card, you will start to lose access to the following channels from October 2009:
    • ITV1 (if you receive one of the following ITV1 regions: ITV Anglia West, ITV Central South West, ITV Meridian North, ITV Meridian South East, ITV Tyne Tees South or ITV Yorkshire East)
    • FIVE (if you live in London, the North of England or Scotland)
    • FIVE USA, FIVE USA +1, FIVER, FIVER +1
    • Channel 4 HD
    • Sky 3

I joined sky a couple of months ago, with SKY+ HD, Sports, Movies and ESPN. In total, my bill comes to over £60 per month. Is it likely that I will be offered any deals should I threaten to cancel some of my subscriptions? Even if they say no, I'll still be getting rid of ESPN as I've hardly watched it.
Getting married to a wonderful lady on August 10, 2012.

Need to save up, lose weight, reduce my money worries and get back to being the real me! :j

they won't offer you anything as you've not had your subscription for a year.
  • i have been with VM for a few years now. I had been paying £45.50 for bb, s tv and phone line. I wasn't happy so i call to cancel. I am now paying £42.50 for xl tv, 10mb bb and free evening and weekends as well as having the v+ hd box. I did also ask about the free netbook offer the are doing. it is open to existing customers but you have to be on a "pre-acceptance" list. Load of rubbish. Cant really complain though as i am paying a few quid less now for a wee bit more. Still think their customer service is abysmal

    Just a quick experience report.

We where paying £57 in all to Sky (Sky World + Multiroom) and we phoned to cancel.

We genuinely did mean to cancel and move to Freeview+. We where on the phone to a lovely guy for about an hour who kept on throwing offer after offer at us.

We also have broadband with Orange which has lapsed out of contract. It was £23 / month with line rental, 8Mb.

After those hours on the phone we ended up with basic Sky £21.50 + Sky Broadband Unlimited 20Mb £10 + no line rental for 12 months.

Instead of the £80 we where paying, we're now paying £31.50. £50 saving per month / £600 / year. Less channels sure, but better broadband.

The only secret was to actually be wanting to cancel.... they throw anything at you to keep you.

  • Does anyone know how far in advance you can cancel/re-negotiate your Sky package? Mine currently runs out on 3rd December and i called them recently to see what offers they currently had as i was thinking of switching to Virgin. He said i could only do it 5 days before the 3rd Dec, this just seemed a short period to get anything new sorted out. Maybe i need to push the fact im looking into cancelling some more?
Currently got all the Sky channels on 50% off for 12 month deal, i know im not going to get anything that good again but any little helps!

As far as im away you have to give 30 days notice to cancel, we have the same deal as you 50% off for 12 months.

I'll be phoning on the 7th of nov to cancel, tbh the only channel we will miss will be paramount comedy, and the sky+ feature.

Id be interested to know what they offer you if you phone up on the 3rd of nov :)
  • I thought i had read somewhere that it was 30 days but couldnt find where so thought i would check. There is not much about cancellation on the Sky website! I probably didnt push the fact that i wanted to cancel hard enough thats why he told me 5 days before.
If i get offered anything decent i'll let you know Tom, i dont really intend to leave as i love my Sky but it will be a bit of a hike from £28 a month for TV, Phone and internet to over £60!

If you dont threaten to leave then you wont get anything :(

If they call your bluff you can phone back and stop the cancellation :)
