raeble wrote:It is a well known fact that if you phone up threatening to cancel Sky the cancellations department will offer you three months half price or something similar. Never pay for the maintence of the box because you can get them to fix it for free if it stops working and you phone up to cancel because of this. You may have to say you can't afford it or something. You do have to be firm in your intention to cancel, and slip into the conversation descretly what you are willing to accept and know what you are talking about. Of course you might get a miserable blighter who doesn't offer you anything. However every single time I have phoned up to cancel sky, they have offered me three months half price (about 5 times). I now no longer subscribe to sky but they have sent me a letter offering me three months half price if I re-subscribe for three months - trying to get their christmas figures up methinks.
I've applied that very technique today. They came straight back with the three month offer which I turned down. They then offered 12 months for the price of 9 thus effectively knocking off 25% from my bill (down to £31.87 per month). I said no, so they then offered to upgrade my multiroom box to a brand new pvr3 box for 65 quid as well. I said if they could give me all of the above plus free installation I would stay with them. they agreed, not a bad at all0 -
I've recently cancelled my Sky subscription.
Can anyone tell me what channels I should still be receiving via my Sky digital box. I thought I'd continue to receive E4???

Hi. Just thought i would let you know what happened to me. I am still on my 12month contract and on the £21 month package. I wanted to add sky sports as the rangers match is on tonight, so phoned last night to get them added. She told me it would be £36. I thought it was a bit steep but agreed anyway. She asked if my card was in the box etc, and said she was sending the signal. Once she had done that, she said she would now tell me about the billing. My next month would be £51!!! I said, hang on, you didn't tell me it would be that much, if it was going to cost me £51 in one month i couldn't afford it. She told me she had already sent the signal and it was too late. I kept saying i couldn't afford that and that she had told me it was £36 (i understand the way the billing works, but she hadn't explained it to me until she had already sent the signal) i asked her to cancel but she said she couldn't. I told her i wanted to speak to a supervisor, so she put me on hold and then came back and told me they would credit my account with £15 and then i had to cancel by 21st March. That means that i am getting the sports channels for free for a month!!
Just thought i would let you know, as i didn't think they gave you anything when you were still in the years contract. :TI like my money right where I can see it - hanging in my closet.;)0 -
Was just about to quit ntl in favour of Sky to save a bit of cash. Including the Quidco and online offer, I worked out my package would cost around £11 a month on Sky during the 1st year.
Rang ntl to arrange cancellation and (totally surprised me, this) they offered to match it.
Glad to stay with ntl and avoid the switcover, even happier to save a bit of cash!0 -
I have had Sky for 50% for three months
Then until today 2 months at 40% discount
I have contacted them today with a view to cancelling and explaining my intention to go to freeview.
I was offered 1 month at 25% off I said no cancel my subscription, I was immediately offered 12 months at 25% off.
A total saving over the 17 months of 3222.16 or £13 a month thanks.
PS I used the freephone number as well.

Been a customer of Sky for 5 years,Had sky + for four weeks, yesterday it threw a wobbly and kept on locking up and turning its self on and off.Phoned Sky and told them, they said there was a known issue with these ( not the box, but the software) and there was a temporary measure of dis-enabling the fast forward facility, and the box would be fine. I replied that I was not happy with this as they could not offer any time to this conclusion. They said this was the only option. I asked for either an exchange of box to a brand that works flawlessly, as I felt it is faulty goods and the box was not fit for the intended purpose of use, or be put through to cancellations. They refused to do both saying I was tied to a 1 year contract and there was nothing wrong with the box???( except for the small issue of faulty software,).
I tried to explain that if the box had a software isuue, in my mind that is faulty goods. They still would not budge. Asked them to speak to a manager, and she also would not budge.
They finally put me through to "Head Office", where I was getting the same response, and the did not want to loose me.I again told them it was one or the other as I was not prepared to keep a box which is known to be faulty, be it software or not. eventually, magically they said I could cancel my 1 year contract and revert to my old equipment and rolling contract, with a refund of monies paid for the box, as I was within 30 days of delivery. This is what im doing.
If your going for sky+, be warned there are dodgy Amstred boxes being supplied by Sky, and they basically dont want to know, if your unlucky to get one.
