Thanks peeps.
Hmm interesting and yes serendipity2706 I did see you orignal post and wondered what your outcome was.
Hmm I think I may do this....
Say I am going to leave and get a freeview recorder. Try and get sky+ box cheaper and then try and haggle down the monthly package or try and get them to include multiroom within the price current monthly price.
Half of this is my fault there was an offer for Sky+ at 35 quid including installation a while ago but for some reason I didn't take it up....
Has anybody actually managed to down there monthly subsciption price? Like I mentioned before I've got the entertainment mixes apart from kids and music and the full movies and sports mix...It would be nice if I could get it down by a tenner a month.0 -

outcome was For a one off charge of £49 (instead of £159) I've got the sky plus box, free line rental for a year, (saving £11.50 from BT) 16 mg broadband (saving £14.99 for 2 MB from AOL) All for £15 a month- think it was £5 for the free phone calls anytime- but Ill cancel that after a year if its not worthwhile, and £10 for the broadband, but I'll downgrade to the middle one after a year too.
I was paying £38 for the mixes plus movies, now its £53 but sky+, 16 mb broadband and free phone calls, plus free line rental.
You do have to say you are going to cancel cos you want free view though- and phone on tues or weds, and insist on being put through to cancellations, theyll try and dissuade you but they seem to be the only people that can do the deals- they didi tell me there was a 30 min waiting time for cancellation calls, but once I said Id hang on it, was put through in about 10 mins
Good luck0 -
"they didi tell me there was a 30 min waiting time for cancellation calls, but once I said Id hang on it, was put through in about 10 mins"
A long wait for the cancellations dept how convenient for Sky.
If you phone Sky 0870 (8p per min) you shouldn't have to wait 30 mins, but of course Sky get a percentage of the call charge.
p.s. Can you cancel by letter or email ?0 -
If you phone Sky 0870 (8p per min)
0870 numbers are 6p/min daytime and 1.5p/min evenings (subject to 7p call set-up fee), as per this link. Still, I always use the latest number on www.saynoto0870.com myself.0 -

Balls I just wrote an amazing update but it timed out.....
Anyway the gist was I called last night on the landline number recently quoted (I can confirm that works).
Got through to cancellations, note the initial operator has to wait with you in the queue before introducing you to the cancellations operator.
Tip: When you speak to the first person make sure you say "Can you connect me to cancellations", They will ask why and then just reply "cutting costs" quite firmly....I can see if you waffle a bit here they will try and talk you out of it when in reality you just need to save that for the next person you speak to...
Anyway went in saying wanted to cut costs blah blah, was going to get a freeview hardisk recorder.
I played dumb and let the operator explain what sky+ is etc, he said he could do it at £79 including installation.
I declined, he went away for ages claiming he had problems, I thought great here comes the drop close and then he came back, offered me it again at £79 quid and then that was that really. No better offer I was really suprised.
So currently like Jonesy I have 30 days to either get a better offer or call back up and try again.0 -
