Yes! To reitterate tell em your getting a FREEVIEW HD and want to downgrade to the bare minimum. Then start haggling using the Broadband as an incentive for them.
I think he would be better quoting freesat HD as the pvr is released this month. Freeview HD isn't going to be avaliable to at least next year and then to certain areas with a new box0 -
Rang Sky again after last nights put off, went straight thru to cancellations, and said i'd like to cancel having been palmed off so quickly last night and offered an upgrade for £210 all in. The response was after a little thought , like 10 seconds of "hold on a minute", I got Sky plus box for £30 all in, AND Sky Sports free for a month, and it arrives Sunday!! The chap i spoke to was brilliant and couldnt believe that I had been offered nothing last night bearing in mind the time I've been with Sky (about 7 years), even had a 5 minute discussion about Football whilst he was processing it all through !! Well chuffed anyway!!0

Just a word of warning, I rang Sky tonight at about 10.30 following the advice given below in order to get myself a cheap Sky+ box. I was brusque with the first person I spoke to and stated that I wanted to cancel expecting to get put through to cancellations, however, after they took my details they just put the phone down. I tried again and the same happened so on the third attempt I said "please put me through to cancellations" to which he replied "this is cancellations and your subscription has been cancelled!" D'oh.
There was no Sky+ offer to tempt me back and so now I have 30 days before Sky is cut off.
Does anyone know if they're likely to phone up in the next four weeks to get my business back or do I need to go crawling back?
So my tip is if you want to get straight through to cancellations use the phone menu which is 5 then 3 then 10 -

In the run up to Christmas, Sky know that nobody really wants to cancel their Sky TV. That's why they're balshy and just let people cancel. They know that you'll come crawling back some time before Christmas.0 -
If I ever phone to cancel something I work on the principle that if they don't offer me a deal I'm happy with I will definately cancel.
When you phone and offer half heartedly to cancel I believe many of them can sense it,it just doesn't come across as genuine.0 -
I am about to move house and as I don't seem to watch SKY as much as I used to - decided to give them notice to cancel - planning to hunt for better offers from other companies in the new year !
To cut a long story - the operator offered me free setup at my new address an extra SKY+ box and 50% off multi-rooms for 6mths. This will mean that I will have 1 old, 1 new SKY+ and a HD box !(And most important no contract ties)
I rang them on Mon 3/11 and on Thurs 06/11 I received a letter offering me a extra "special loyalty" discount for longstanding customers. Has anyone had a similar offer? What does it entail? If I don't hear from anyone by Mon 10/11 I'll ring them and pass on what I find out.
I have been a subcriber for about 15 - 20 yrs (on and off) and had subscribed to the full package - but agreed to the above offer and reduced to the minimum package ! (£200 or less down from £600+).
I am a "credit crunch crusader" ...... Grrrrr:A0 -
i have wanted to phone up to get skyplus for ages and ages but i have not got the nerve for haggling!! it looks so easy when i read your posts of how you got it for £49..
anyone want to 'recommend me' and then you get £30 of M&S vouchers..
failing that.. shall i just say- my friend blah blah got it for £49 so why cant i get it for that price? i have been with them for years and years0 -
Channel Five is going FTA (free to air) on Freesat on the 18th Nov and also now on a Sky box using Add Channels.ID is 6335.
Don't have a Freesat receiver so mabye can get it now even though it's not on the Freesat EPG yet if you put in the frequency.
ITV 4 + is coming in Dec.
We only have ITV 2 + and ITV 3 + at the moment.0 -
You may have seen my previous posts...
Since cancelling my sky account I recieved a letter basically confirming when my sky would be cut off and if there was anything sky could do to change my mind then to give them a call....
So I left it a few days and gave them a call on friday. They seemed a bit bemused as to why I had called I explained I had recieved a letter.
I asked the guy to be honest, he said he couldnt do a better offer on Sky+ and he told me to wait until my sky gets cut off and then to call up the retentions dept. He said there was really nothing he could do as my account is still "Pending Cancellation"
Its really weird that everyone seems to be getting the £49 Sky+ offer0 -
Grrr really really annoyed with Sky today.
Last month ordered HD and paid the £75 + £30 installation charge. They were supposed to install today but the guys turned up with a work order to fix a non-existent fault with our regular box. Apparently they send through wrong work orders all the time but this the worst error the guy had seen. Phoned Sky and they say all they can do is rebook for 10 Jan 2009! Phoned back and spoke to someone else to complain - this woman showed no interest at all and didn't even apologise to us for the inconvenience! After this we went through and cancelled the new box.
Not too bothered about the HD tbh, but really miffed about not having Sky+ for the Christmas programming. We have a small baby so often can't watch things when they're aired.
Have fired off an email via their website. Is there anything else I can do?0
