I take it there isn't already a dish on the new home?
Hi Bextech and kibs and co !

No dish next door, and our contract finishes 1st November, we have a half price offer too at the moment so that would be negated i guess if we become a new customer instead ?... Also a major issue is we have skybroadband also and are on the Mid package at £5 a month, having worked for a broadband company i understand that there is only a certain amount of room at the telephone exchange to fit a certain amount of sky bb customers, so i take it by moving next door ( which has no exsisting telephone line) Id have to have the Connect package @ £17 a month after getting BT to install a landline for £130 ?
Would anyone be able to verify this ? Many thanks for reading my ramble !

You should be fine for Sky Broadband at £5/month, can't see there being an LLU issue as Sky's already at that exchange, unlikely that next door you'd get connected to another exchange which isn't LLU'd (that's not to say it doesn't happen).

Might take a few days once the BT line has been installed before it's recognised on the database and for you to get broadband enabled.

I know BT have been doing a £30 install offer - 18 month line rental contract - not to say you can't take calls elsewhere, though for that price you do need to make so many calls per month with BT otherwise they charge you the full install price.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Hmmmm, Ive checked out that BT £30 offer....- they are swines aren't they? So whichever way round you are chained to BT for a year to 18 months !

Have also compared Sky against Virgin just out of interest and I was shocked at the cost of Virgin! High speed bb or no high speed bb, its still v expensive in comparison and the channel selection is poor.... Hmmmmmmm, thinking i may stay with Sky and do the £125 Bt line option then at least Ill be free in 12 months !
Many thanks for your advice :)

With the BT line rental, it's wise to keep BT for line rental anyway, so I wouldn't really call that an issue.

As for Virgin Media, as it is cable you do get the speed you pay for unlike ADSL where it is advertised as up to 8Mbit for example and you might only get 2, 3 or 4 Mbit. If you pay VM for 20Mbit you get 20Mbit, pay for 10Mbit you get 10.

Yeah, the TV line up isn't so great, there are a few channels missing, other than Sky One, Two, Three, News etc, most the main ones are there, though with the XL TV package you do get Setanta thrown in.

VM's phone service is one of the dearest. Still you can get bundled offers which are quite good. That brings down the cost of the broadband and you do get the speed you pay for (except when they throttle you for a few hours if downloaded too much, still it's better than a hard cap and being charged more or kicked off).

That is the reason I would never have broadband from anyone else other than cable unless I wasn't in a cable area or when a new provider comes along as offers broadband as reliable and at the speeds advertised.

I get the Sky free and FTV (with £20 card) channels and I also have multi sat for foreign channels many with newer US and British movies. I don't have a BT landline anymore (we had a little disagreement) and use mobiles for my calls and am trying mobile BB (my brother's dongle borrowed as he is abroad), but as I'm out in the sticks it's only at dialup speeds.
In town it's a lot better about 400-500kbps download speed.

What I'd really like is mobile BB for the upload and sat for the download. That way out in the sticks I'd get a fast download speed and could upload without a fixed tel line.

I personally wouldn't pay for any TV as there is nothing on there worth paying for in my opinion as I don't watch a lot of sports or movies.

I'd probably try cable if I was in a cable area.

Anything to keep away from the dreaded BT.

Just a pity you need them for a line if you want the cheap call providers like 18185 etc.

I got a cheap dish off the internet £12 and multi LNB LNB with 4 connectors on £8 4 cheap multi sat receiver for £25 each.

Ran cables from dish into loft one receiver in sons bedroom one in daughters bedroom my bedroom one to livingroom.

Everyone can watch what they want from the FREE satellite channels.

Each TV also has freeview built in.

Best thing of all I pay nothing at all to watch the channels.

I have VM 2Mb BB for 18 quid a month. I wanted to get some Sky Channels so played one off against the other

Ended up with the following package from VM:10Mb BB, their XL TV package, phone line, free wireless router and free installation (of the TV and phone line) for 38 quid a month. I could have had the L TV package instead of XL for 34 quid.

I had to haggle, but I think I did okay. I'm sure someone will now tell me I could have done much better!!!
  • Our virgin went up since the one year for £30 deal so we phoned to cancel as sky was going to be cheaper. Virgin phoned back and matched the sky deal of £46.50 inc phone, broadband, xl tv, sky sports, setanta and threw in a v+ box too! Can have this deal as long as we like. We are so chuffed!

No sky one but only wanted it for lost but will get it for free on lovefilm!

    £99 for HD Fitted.
    Currently have two Sky +.
May cancel multiroom and sports in order to reduce monthly payments from £57 to £48 still thinking about it.
Might try and see if they'll give me a half price package deal as well if I keep the lot.
