Hi, not sure if this the right place, but I recently subscribed to sky with the broadband, phone and tv for £17 a month, but now I want to add sky sports - however, sky are charging £36 for this in addition to the £17 (unlike new customers who can get all the products and sports for £36 in total - does anyone know if there is anyway around this? And if you do add sports, are you tied in to a further 12 months or can you cancel it at any time?
Did you get the new price from the account section of the Sky website by any chance? There seems to be some weird errors on there where I can upgrade my current two mixes to the full package for only £47 per month, but it I just add say the Sports mix for instance it works out at £55. The best way it seems is to ring up. If you were given that price over the phone then I'd keep ringing up until I got someone who knows what they are doing and can offer the correct price.

A normal upgrade, not part of a promotion or anything, should not tie you into a twelve month contract for the new subscription. You should be able to downgrade at anytime after 30 days. If I recall correctly, there is only one downgrade allowed per 30 days though. For instance, if you had movies and sport, you could drop them both together, but not separately in the same 30 day period.

which paper was this in and did it have a reference to quote?
    thanks
    Jim

Hi Jim, glad you noticed this. If you don't already have Sky I think this is a top deal!
I still have the advert that was in the Sun newspaper on friday. There are no quotes but the phone number to call is 08442 410721.
It clearly states Sky+HD box offer £75 - normally £150 when you join sky tv with the HD mix from £27 a month.
It says offer ends 10th September.
Please somebody take advantage of this top offer. Believe me as an existing customer I can't get it, grrrrrr!!!!

  • You can get almost the same offer though, with some luck. There is also an offer for existing customers of £75 with a £60 installation fee, but quite a few people have managed to get Sky only charge £30. Just phone and see what you can get.

There is a scan of the advert here.
  • I'm obviously speaking to the wrong people because the best they've offered me is £129. I told them I was insulted that new customers paid less despite the fact they know I'm an honest regular customer who pays on time every month inc talk, broadband, sports etc and that I'd rather leave!
    Freeview here I come.... :D

Im thinking of getting sky at the end of the month and looking at getting the News, Variety, Knowledge, Movies and Sports Mix for £45.

I would like to get Sky+ but does anyone know when calling to join is it possible to haggle straight off and get the box half price or even free and maybe even get the monthly price knocked down.

    Has anyone ever tried this?
  • If Sky have you as a customer they won't go out of their way to offer you any discounts even if you have been loyal for years. If they want to entice someone new to join they will offer you great deals.

Lots of other companies like the AA and RAC etc are the same.
And often these companies want you to do the continous yearly direct debit or credit card debit so they take the money off automatically every year, so you then forget the money has been taken off for another year before you've had a chance to shop around.
I prefer it when companies write to you saying your payment is due for another year and you can decide if you want to stay with them or look for a better deal elsewhere. The companies of course don't want to chance you not renewing with them.

Thanks for this - you were absolutely right - I called up and its just £36 per month for the whole thing, I think something is incorrect when you try and upgrade online. Only took me 15 minutes to get through, but I should have it in time for the tennis tonight ;)

    Thanks!
  • First post from a newbie - hi everyone! I am an existing Sky customer. Yesterday I called the standard Sky Customer Services number, to see if they would give me a deal to upgrade from Sky+ to Sky HD. The person I spoke to said there were no deals available to existing customers, and my only option was to pay £150 for the box, and £60 for installation. I threatened to leave, but still got nowhere.

    Then I phoned 01506 421825 and took option 1 > 4> 5> 3> 4.

Got through to the Scottish call centre. Said exactly the same spiel. The nice chap then said - We do have some deals, have you seen some details somewhere on the Internet? I said I had seen "Sky HD Upgrade Offer" for £75 for the box, and £30 for installation. He said "that's the one!".

He booked it for me there and then, and they are coming on Friday to do the installation! Half price!! :T

So the deals definitely are there for the taking if you speak to the right person.

Also noticed in Curry's today - they are doing the same offer instore for new AND existing customers, so if you don't have any luck on the phone, try Currys.

    Hope that helps someone.

    Cheers,

    Graz.
  • I threatened to cancel by calling 01506 831006. Got to Indian call centre who asked few questions about why I am leaving and then transferred me to UK.

Note: I have been with Sky for 13 months and have Sky 2 mix, Broadband Base and Talk Unlimited package. (£22/month)

I was offered £30 Sky+ box with free installation. I tried to get it down to Free, but that was his "final" offer. The he told me that if I switch my Line Rental from BT to them, he is willing to give me 6 months free line rental, saving me £60 (plus £0.5 x 12 = £6 from BT).

    Overall = Free Sky+ with £36.:j
