I phoned them last night to ask about changing to Sky phone, got offered the £5 per mth package for free for 6mths and half price line rental. Then I asked about Sky+ and was quoted £99 for the box and £60 installation, when I pointed out it says on the website installation is £30 he said that was for new customers only and he couldnt get round it so we agreed to pay £149, but having read some posts on here I'm going to call them back tomorrow and say how angry I am that after about 6 yrs as a loyal customer with TV, broadband and now phone AND multiroom, I'm getting charged such a ridiculous installation charge. Even if I can get the installation charge refunded it's better than nothing.
• I have found that if you call and ask to be put thru to cancellations they always ask why you want to canx or at least a reason for it. This is what customer service people do, this is so once you explain why they try sweeten you wiht 3 months free or discounts. The best appoach i found was being pleasant, use their name, tell them that it is causing fights in house due to everyone wanting different things on. Stick to your guns and dont hesitate they are trained to pick up on this...lol Ask again for canx dept when you go thru stay with same story. they will give you an offer which sounds really good but we know they can do more. At first they may say full cost is ( i got 4 different full costs every time i called) most was 209 for sky+ say no way i can afford that even though it does sound like good idea. They will reduce amount now to about 49 for install say no really ive called to canx but this would not be cost effective for you. Should by now say for free.
Always use name and use words like great, fantastic, you are sooo helpful and mind tell them once you have it for free that they have saved on domestics for you...lol:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

hope this helps someone

Wonder if the offer will be extended this Sunday.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Before making and big purchases, trying to haggle or complain I always do a little research on MSE :money:. Follow the advice of sunnysuzi above, be pleasant and stick to your story. The free SKY+ thread inspired me to phone and was successful with no hassle and cancellation lady was very helpful, just wish I had pushed for more! :D
• After reading all the posts on getting free sky + I decided to give it a go, I rang and spoke to a couple of people who said they could do nothing for me, I asked to be put through to the cancellation department, the man there said he had never heard of anyone getting it for free but he would speak to the manager and see what he could do, he came back with an offer of £49 he was insistant that nobody got it for free! I ended up cancelling and was told it was too late to change my mind now! A previous post says you have 30 days to change your mind is this true or do I go with virgin media to stop the hassle from the kids "no cartoon network"!!!

Email james.murdoch@bskyb.com, tell them that you left because you know new and old customers are getting them for free and you have been a loyal customer and would consider coming back if you got one for nothing. Bet they give in though they may offer it as a credit on your bill. They just gave me two months free viewing to get me to stay as I cancelled because they wouldnt budge on HD prices and also gave credit for antivirus software in the past when they couldnt supply one that was didnt work with Vista. Be firm, tell them you expect to get it for free and see what they say. Good luck

You can also change your mind at any time, you will even be sent a letter telling you this.

currently on the sky sports pack with 8mb internet and sky talk unlimited, been with them for about 7 years.

for the last 5 years i callthem up just after my 12 months ended and they offered 25% off the sky tv.
Rang them up this morning, again my 12 months just ended and asked what they could offer, they said nothing i said i wanted to cancel, then the chap said have you heard of Sky+ i said yes and he told me i could get it for £49 as i was a loyal customer, i said if i was that loyal surely you can do it for free. He came back after a few minutes and said they could install sky+ and the box for free, he then asked that if i switched over my line rental from BT to sky he could knocked off the sky talk unlimted rental (£5p/m) for a year. I said what about knocked 25% off sky tv, he said as i was getting the box and installation for free he said no...So all in all not too bad and getting the sky+ box installed tomorrow :T
• Got stopped in the town by Sky on one of their stalls last week.

This is what I've been offered.
Sky+ (£30 installation plus free box)
Sky Multiroom (£10 per month)
Sky Mix 6 Package (£21 plus Sport and Movies free for one month)
2mb Broadband with wireless router (Free - Plus Free Weekend and Evening Phone Calls).
Total £30 installation, £31 per month package.
I'll cancel the Sport and Movies after one month cos I don't want them anyway - I'll end up being stuck in front of the TV 24/7 - but if they offer me a few extra months free I'll bite their hand off.

I'm already a Sky Subscriber so I had to do it in my wife's name and was advised not use her surname. I pay £21 per month at the moment so for £10 extra per month I've got a Sky+ box, multiroom and free broadband and warranty for a further year.

I'll use my existing box and dish to go in another room and use it as a freesat. I've got to remove the old dish and cable otherwise they utilise them instead of giving me new stuff.

I phoned BT to get my MAC - it took about 5 minutes. Got two confirmation emails from them last night with a date (10 days time) when my account is closed

Installation is Next Wednesday.
• Sky have stands in most town centres.

Speak to the reps, they generally work on commission and can sometimes offer you more than you'll get if you speak to Sky direct. You can really haggle with them - and if you are an existing customer you don't have to threaten to close your account. But make sure you know what you want and how much you are prepared to fork out for installation and on monthly payments.

The only problem I can foresee will be cancelling your existing account if they try to offer you a deal.

After a number of phone calls to sky last week i managed to get the price of sky plus upgrade down from over £200 down to just £49. but that was only after i said i would cancel my sky package.
had it installed today and phoned again to ask why are others being given sky plus for free and not me?
they said that sky dont offer it free direct from themselves but third party companies like the stalls in shopping malls do.

Has anyone actually been offered it free direct from sky over the phone???

Ring them up to say you want to return the Sky+ box under the 28 days cooling off period because its not worth the money, but will keep it if they refund you £49.
I think you can cancel without penalties, but not sure....
I'm getting mine for free, installation this Sunday.
