Digital TV Cost Cutting Article - Discuss What You've Been Offered

Hi Craig
I cant speak about Virgin media too much as i only have broadband with them, but i do think you maybe could get a better deal on your internet connection as i have very rarely paid the going price for thier internet services they provide. My current costs are £17 a month for 4Mb (expected to be up to 10Mb by June) They do seem a bit more sympathic to existing customers than sky do. As for your sky packages I cant really comment other than my previous posts, I have had a quick trawl through thier corporate site and some guy reckons that the churn rate for customers (Thats how fast they turn customers over) is going ok, but that is just corporate talk. My advice is get on the phone and dont forget the "Sayno to 0870" and get a better deal .
Really appreciate the reply mate.
Will be giving this a try tomorrow I think. Will let you know how I get on!
Also - 3 way calling will be removed - Never even asked for that !!!
edit: You have your first thanks sir0 -
Virgin called the other day - spoke to my OH.
They offered to sens us a 'free TV box'.
I've dug around the Virgin site - haven't got a clue.
Any idea what they might be sending me?

I have just dumped sky for the same reason, been with them for 12yrs and when i wanted to upgrade they wanted full price for everything. My 30 day notice expired yesterday and the channels went off today. I think its terrible that they can offer new customers deals when stuffing the old and faithfull.
If enough people leave them because of the "new customer deals" they will soon be out of business or have to come crawling back to old customers with better deals.
Lets get all old customers to start a "DUMP SKY CAMPAIGN" and screw them into looking after long standing customers.
Hear Hear Billys - a 'DUMP SKY CAMPAIGN' now thats what Im talking about ! By my reckoning they must be **ssing off more existing customers than gaining new ones with these 'unfair' offers. Sky are Greedy and deserve to fail the way they treat loyal longstanding customers. The movie channels are rubbish most of the time anyway and the only thing I may miss is the live football - but theres always match of the day on BBC1. I'm so fed up with them I dont know if I would reinstate my Sky now even if they offered me a free HD box. £55 a month for mainly recycled garbage ? I dont think so !0 -
Anyone know if virgin will give you the 4 for £40 deal if you are already a customer? You know the tv, landline, mobile and broadband.?Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Can anyone offer me advice please?
I'm with Virgin for all 3, TV, telephone and internet and paying upwards of £150 a month
It seems my daughter has been ringing mobiles more than she should as I get free local and national calls!!
Anyhoo, I'm sick of hitting my credit limit with Virgin and being cut off every week and fed up of paying such a huge bill every month. I think my internet is the medium package which is £18 and we have all the channels bar movies and adult channel on the TV.
Would I be better off either..
a. Sticking with Virgin for the TV but finding other phone/internet providers
b. Going to Sky for all 3
c. Going to Sky for TV but finding other phone/internet providers
d. Summat else...
Any advice would be appreciatedDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -

Guess whoooo?
It looks like you need a deal with free mobile calls (which you aint gonna get). The rest of it is pretty much fixed costs (I'm with V for phone and tinterweb, sky for telly btw)
Easiest answer is to get a call barring service so that you can't ring any 07xx numbers from your home phone.
May be worth looking in to.....Neigh, neigh, and thrice neigh

Virgin Media are the dearest phone service around, have been for around 6 years, their call costs outside the inclusive calls (won't say free as you have to pay a monthly fee for them).
You could get VM to BAR calls to mobiles. If you need to call mobiles then you could use a service like Call 18185 - cheaper than using VM, though not as cheap as using 18185 from a BT line.
I'd call up VM and go through to retentions, select the option on 150 to leave VM and tell them you aren't happy with the cost of the service and you want to cancel, they should then give you around 50% or so off your charges. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
How do these people get the 3 for 30 then?DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0

3 for 30 is only weekend landline calls included on phone
ETA : What about this
nearly half what you pay now and includes talk mobile (whatever that is)
ETAA : try skype for DDNeigh, neigh, and thrice neigh
