Yes, no more Sky at Quidco. Why?

They don't want to give money away.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

    Ok, so..

Crap retention offers (if any), no more Quidco, still charging £10 per month for HD.. yet the new BBC / ITV Freesat offering is imminent. Granted, no pay channels on this, but with HD and Sky+ type facilities, it's bound to give pretty stiff competition to Sky, imo.

Shouldn't Sky be wanting to keep onto as many people as possible, and tie them into new 12 month contracts? Perhaps not. Perhaps they're putting all that on hold, saving their money for when the Freesat service is actually launched.

Sky probably don't see it as much competition at the moment, after all, Free Satellite channels on digital have been there since Oct 1998 when launched. Most people who take up satellite do so for the pay channels, maybe they are thinking that won't really change too much, as people who were going to go for Free satellite channels would have mostly done so already.

The only difference with this new BBC/ITV Freesat offering is a different EPG and Interactive and no fee for the PVR function on the PVR version of the box.

You only need to pay Sky the £10 HD fee for the subscription HD channels, you don't need the £10 fee for the free BBC HD, 4HD and Luxe TV HD channels.

So really it's only the £10 recording fee to Sky if you don't subscribe to at least 1 mix, that will be the difference and Sky could drop that.

With a BBC/ITV Freesat box you are stuck with the FTA channels even if you later decide you want to subscribe, with a Sky box you could simply subscribe within minutes.

Just a further note on Virgin - in an email confirming my package offer customer relations wrote:

mob Broadband with this doubling upto 4mb in the summer

so there must be firm intentions to increase the broadband speed otherwise they could not have put it in writing.

In another conversation today - they said that negotiations were open again about getting Sky channels back - less believable - but I'll hold off paying £150 for a Sky+ box just incase!

You've had my sage advice on the broadband - dismiss it at your own cost! as for the sky story - that may very well be true but don't hold your hopes out.

Don't forget if you sign up with Virgin you may find all your transactions are being sold to advertisers. However it may give you a chance to get out early if it is considered a change to your contract.
