Sky broadband may say it's unlimited, however it isn't really unlimited, they have a Fair Use Policy and if you download too much they kick you off.

Has anybody been warned by sky though? tb forums here suggest it's in excess of 250GB (and I know I've downloaded more than that in a month.)

For the last 3 months I have had a special offer which gave me the sky + package at a reduced rate. It is due to expire at midnight tonight. Is there anything I can say when I phone up to cancel it so that they might give me another special offer or even continue my present offer for another 3 months etc? Or will I just to wait a few more months until another card comes in the post with another special offer?

  • My VM contract was up so i decided to see what i could get. I was on the 3 for 30 but 5 days after i joined VM the sky channels went so i complained and got XL for free. Added talk mobile and Unlimited for extra because my bills were very high.

Started looking around on sat. I rang VM and they offered me 2mb Broadband, TV XL and Phone XL for £34.95. Add caller display and call mobile for £38.20. I enquired about V+ and was quoted £75 install.

Phoned the Sky Refer a friend number and they would give me a free sky+ box £30 installation. I was going to get 3 mixes (£18) and stay with virgin for Broadband and Phone (inc call international and mobile) and TV M for £19.95 and add £1.75 for caller dispaly.

Waited 2 days until today as sky said they would hold the offer until midnight tonight (31.3.08). I rang VM back and said that sky would give me a free sky+ box if i signed up by midnight tonight and they instantly offered me a free V+ box with no installation. I would have to pay £34.95 inc £1.75 caller display and extra for the call mobile and international.

Asked about v+ with the £19.95 above but a non starter as i would have had a v+ and and got sky+ (4 mixes) phone and broadband for under £40 but that was a non starter. Mabye next year. No harm in asking though!

I thought about and did a channel audit with the wife and kids and have settled for this:

2mb broadband (4mb was £7 extra and no plans to roll out 10mb in my area yet so thought not good VFM.)
    TV XL
    Phone XL
    Talk Mobile
    Caller Display
    FREE V+ BOX INSTALL for £38.20 a month. :-)

my folks are in spain so i signed up with 18185 for these. I am well chuffed. They also offered me multiroom for £5 a month.

I watch all the sport i need online unless its on setanta and can get sky sports news free online 2. I also love the on demand stuff for me and the kids. Now thinking about getting a HD telly as the V+ has HD built in. with sky you need an extra box (rip off if you ask me).

When i rang the sky refer a friend they didnt even ask who my friend was. I just said a neighbour told me if i rang....etc. There are a plethera of dishes outside on other properties on my road.

Sky are repacing the refer a friend sky+ box offer with £50 of MandS vouchers tonight so get it if you can. But also got told by VM that they are not doing free V+ installation and I got it.

sky+ refer a friend line is 08701 942 095 packages start at £16 with install fee of £30. try to blag free but no way.

Moral of the story is don't give up. See what each company will offer you and wait a day or two and then play them off against one another. With the SKy+ deal ending (thats what they say) i was in the perfect position to haggle with VM and I am happy with what i have got. Will miss sky one and SS news on the telly but i have saved a packet as i have had bills of over £100 before now without sports or movies.

I have taken the time if anyone had any questions i will answer them.

Thought about the 3 for offer from sky but can only get the sky connect broadband which is a rip off as my exchange is not ADSL 2+ yet. That's living in a village does for you!!

Also use 18185 for the calls to UK mobiles that are dearer on cable even when using their extra paid for Talk Mobile option, also when calling 0845 and 0870 if you can't find alternatives on SayNoTo0870.com
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

  • Just rang up Sky to cancel my subscription as I was expecting them to offer me a 3 month half-price deal or something similar to make me stay but the customer service person I spoke to said all deals had been stopped by Sky. I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience recently or if Sky were just trying it on...I have noticed that the cashback sites had stopped offering cashback to new customers.

I'm hope, like last year, that some deals come in towards the end of the footy season to keep customers from cancelling;)

As stated in one of my earlier posts, I tried to get deals off sky but to no avail even though I have been with them for over 9yrs. So I cancelled with a months notice in Febuary and the channel,s went off on the 24th of March (as agreed) I phoned them on Sunday this week and the nice Indian lady accepted the fact that I was no longer a customer and if i wanted to come back to sky they would offer me a sky+ box with free installation for £49 (said she couldnt do any deals on a HD box) the offer with a reference number was accepted by me and an installation has been arranged this Thursday. Tonight I have had an email from sky welcoming me back and confirming the install on Thursday, I have also checked my bank account and they have indeed only taken the £49. So the story seems to be is to carry out the threat to leave then see what they can offer to get you back. My package will be the same (IE £19 for 4mixes) I dont know yet if the box will be a recon and if the engineer needs to install a new dish.
Will let you know after Thursday (still not a great fan of sky though)
I dont have my phone or broadband with sky, i use Virgin for broadband and BT for phone.
