Applogies about the frequency error as I believed they would be on a new ones.

However the I was simply suggesting that it is an alternative for the users coming off SKY to think about in the future. If you use a freesat from sky card in any other box every so often you have to put it back into a sky box to update it I believe and some users might not like having two boxes in their front room to get all channels.

I suppose if you have sky and want to watch standard channels without the SKY+ functionality then get the freesat from SKY card and you will be happy.

If you have SKY+ and only want to watch freeview channels and record then it may be an alternative rather than paying the £10 fee.

I guess once its launched all will be out in the open, so to say

Though remember, Freeview is different, and some channels that are on Freeview aren't free on satellite.

For FTA channels then the new boxes are worth looking at and when the HD PVR version comes down to a sensible price and provided by a decent manufacturer, I'll sell my Pace (non-Sky) HD box and buy a Freesat one.

You wouldn't need two boxes though unless you wanted Five, Five US, Five Life and Sky Three as those will only be picked up with a Sky box. (Taking into account that Ch4, Ch4+1 and 4HD will be switching to FTA soon).
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

PS, I'm not insinuating that your post isn't factual, it's how you put it that made me chuckle. :p

Again, I'm not certain what you mean here, but I *think* you're going down the lines of using a Sky "Freesat from Sky" card (or an expired subscription card) in a non-Sky box. Is that right? If so, it's not required for BBC / ITV's anticipated Freesat service, since it's EPG will consist only of FTA channels. Don't get confused with FTV and FTA. But in any case, I think you're referring to Linux sat receivers and a Dragon Cam. ;)

LOL - yeah. I normally have a go at people who say they get free calls when they mean inclusive, as they are having to pay a monthly fee for it.

Should have said you pay £75 and that includes the box, dish, install and 4 months viewing! :D

    Hi everyone,

New to the site but have been receiving the MSE emails for while now and thought i'd sign up to the site to let you know that I phoned Sky up this afternoon threatening to cancel my sbscription and have been offered a free Sky+ box and installation at no extra cost.
The chap I spoke to was very pleasant and polite and couldn't do enough to help.

With the new BBC / ITV Freesat service, you might not have all channels listed on the EPG from launch as not all channels will want to pay both Sky to be listed on their boxes and BBC/ITV Freesat to be listed on theirs. However you should be able to add them manually.

Shame BBC/ITV decided to go down the proprietary EPG route and not the standard EPG where there would be no charge to broadcasters.

Yeah, I think they might, they could well drop the £10 recording fee for those who don't subscribe as currently if you subscribe there is no recording fee, however that has only been recent.

There's the £75 offer that's been going on for quite some time. Pay Once View Forever. You get free box, free install, dish etc and 4 months viewing to 4 mixes, you can then cancel and just have Freesat and that's it. Half the price of Freesat and you get 4 months of 4 mixes.

I would be grateful if you could tell me that the £75 offer is still available? if it is where I could find it i.e. link address. Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

I used this site to determine if it was worth keeping our Sky package and the best way to get a better deal.
I noticed that a number of people had posted earlier this month saying that Sky seemed unwilling to offer any deals and were uninterested in retaining existing customers, but they seemed to have changed their approach.
I didn't even need to mention cancelling, just that I wanted to scale back our package and they immediately offered 3 months at half price.
So if you didn't get anywhere a few weeks back, perhaps now is a better time to try.
    Hope this helps.

I have also been offered a free sky plus box when cancelling 2 days ago. Had to agree to a 12 month contract for the sky plus.
