Digital TV Cost Cutting Article - Discuss What You've Been Offered

Hi,
I don't know if this is the right thread, or whether I need to start a new thread, but I need help & advice about Sky TV packages.
There must have been hundreds of us MSErs last year who managed to get the half price for 12 months offer.
Well, my 12 months is up !
Before I phone Sky to cancel, or drastically reduce my package (!!!) could anyone share their experience, and what offers if any are available ?
I don't necessarily want to get dragged into the phone and broadband issue, as it took me long enough to get my phone and BB sorted out last time, and any change of provider seems to cause some problems, even if short-lived.
Anyway, basically need to know, what is the best deal / Price I can hope to get to get as many channels as possible ?
Thanks in advance for all/any help :T0 -
Forget getting any kind of deal off sky - they dont seem to want to retain loyal customers and I havnt heard of anyone getting any kind of deal from talking to frienmds and neighbours. I have had sky since 1987 and was on the top package they wouldnt even match the sky HD deal available to new customers i.e. box for £99 and half price installation £30. THe customer services rep was so rude I told her to stick it where the sun dont shine and cancelled. Gonna save £45 a month and watch freeview (footie seasons almost over anyway !)0

Watch the football from online streams too! OK not brilliant quality, but would do, plus you get to watch Sat 15:00 kick-offs.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Sky are like your mobile phone operators, they will give you the world to get you onto the system but then think they can do what they want to you when your contract is up.
I find as with mobiles when your contract is up simply cancel it, dont take the poor discounts and then join again as a new customer and get the best deal. I know that SKY changed their policy about 1 new installation per household but just use your partners name. SKY also offer a big discount through quidco which makes it much cheaper.
Freesat will be here sometime in the future and the word on the street is that the boxes will be about £150 for a HD recorder (similar to the SKY HD box) with no suscription charges. As it will be broadcast from the same satelitte as SKY you just remove the SKY box and put in the Freesat box (this is different from the freesat that sky offers). check out https://www.freesat.co.uk for more info.

Think Sky was dropped off Quidco a while back, Sky no longer offer kickbacks. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... If you already have a Sky box, then there is no point in buying* a Freesat box, as your Sky box will work as a Freesat box when you cancel your subs.
The Freesat box, will come as SD Freesat, HD Freesat and HD Freesat with PVR, so if you want HD and don't want to buy a Sky HD box then maybe it's the way to go.
Yes, it's the same satellites as Sky use - SES Astra 2 and Eutelsat Eurobird. All freesat is is a spec for an alternate EPG and different interactive. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... I wasnt sure if this was right place to post but need some advice please
We have been with Sky for 2yrs - paid full price for installation and the Sky+ box and have been paying £56 a month for complete tv package. We also added the 8mb broadband service they provided (was fastest at time) xmas before last so we are now paying a total of £66 a month.
This seems ridiculous - no one else we know is paying this much! We have no free phone calls or anything.
I've been on their site to have a look but cant work out if we are entitled to a better deal. The kids watch it mainly for nick jr, and other than BBC1 and ITV we only really watch the movie channel so it seems a stupid price to be paying.
Can anyone tell me what I should be asking for before I phone them, I'm really not good on the phone so would like to be slightly prepared before making the call!
Any help would be really gratefully recieved and apologies if I have posted this in the wrong section0 -
I've been offered Sky Plus with movies as a new customer at:
£16 per month sky +
£10 per month extra for movies
£49 for the sky + box
£30 for installation
Is this good or should I push for more? She's calling me back on Thursday and says Ihave to hold all questions until then so that she gets the commission.
All opinions appreciated!!0 -
I know we had a thread running a while back where sky were giving their sky + boxes away for free......obviously so long as you had a valid subscription with them. I tried a few times at the time but was only offered it for £99 plus £30 installation.
I rang up to cancel my sky on Friday and they went through the cancellation process with me. They asked if there was anything they could do to make me change my mind. I said not. He said he could see I'd contacted them int he past re sky + and was I stil interested. I said I couldnt afford it.
He tried to get me to take it up at various prices but I said I could not afford it. He went away for a few minutes and then came back and offered me installation today for free. No charge for the box or installation.
Just to let anyone know that I know they stopped it after a while and started to charge again.
Good luckDS Anthony Steven 07.06.92DD Becky Emma 24.01.94DD Rose Grace Jean 12.05.090
