It's an interesting hobby.
Very true and quite a few have sporting events in the clear as well.
I have a sky+ box and a Dreambox (and two dishes). I can use the dreambox to watch sky with my sky card inserted and stream the signal over my wireless network. So I can happily sit in my back garden and watch what I want on Sky.
Also with simply the dreambox I get plenty of choice of other programmes. For football have a look at http://liveonsat.com/0 -
Just a word of warning for anyone getting a V+ Box.
I finally succumed to temptation and it is brilliant. When I ordered i was told that they could move my old box to another room without any charge, which i thought was fantastic.
Not so brilliant when the bill came in. A charge of £30 as the other box becomes secondary? Finally haggled it down, threatened to cancel and promised no charge. They definately do not mention a charge so maybe i'm being thick not to expect it but if anyone is interested i'd say make 100% sure that they wont charge you. Mind you with virgin is anything ever 100%?0 -
I am with Virgin but I had already ordered a BT line and number transfer to go to either Tiscali/Sky. They have just offered me TV XL, Broadband M and talk anytime for £34 plus V+ for free (waving installation costs of £150 and any monthly charges)... I think I may go for that since their broadband is really quite stable.0

I would jump at that. I am on that deal - without the free v+ - and think it's great value. Shame my deal is already negotiated, they are just not up for throwing in the v+ now! Well done on your offer!0 -

Over the next couple of months, due to a change of circumstances, I've got a period of financial readjustment. This means that I could do with forking out £45 for Sky+ package we have at present. I don't have a BT line at present but will need to re-adjust that and my broadband provider too.
In an attempt to get Sky to be nice to me, I phoned to cancel my package, but they weren't up for negotiation and said OK! 1st Dec we loose Sky altogether.
What I will miss is the Sky+ as it makes my TV viewing far more selective. Does a DVD recorder work in the same way? (not sure I can afford an outlay at the moment). I can't even work out what the cheapest Sky package would be so that I can keep the Sky+ facility, and am I right in thinking that currently you don't pay a monthly fee for that?
I could go to Sky for my phone, BB and TV, but that means I've got to have a BT line.
Any moneysaving ideas anyone? Also, are Sky likely to phone me up and offer me anything, either before cancellation or after?Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0 -
Just wanted to say a big thank you to this site. I needed a service on my sky and the cost was to be £90. I was seriously thinking about paying it and then read the article on digital tv savings. Rang sky and explained I wanted to leave and would start as a new customer, as could probably get free installation and brand new equipment (. I have been given a free service call and my equipment is being exhanged for brand new in a couple of days time-at no cost. This took a very pleasant 5 minute call and saved me £90, plus I am having my 9 year old box exhanged!0

As an existing Sky customer (8yrs+), I called the Sales Department to ask how much it would be to upgrade to Sky+. I was told that this would be £179 - £149 for the box and £30 for installation. After following the advice from someone on another forum, I emailed them querying why they offer customers who want to leave Sky the opportunity to upgrade for only £49!! Got the standard computer generated reply to my first email, so, emailed again. Then got a call from a CSA in the Cancellations Department.... who offered me the same thing. Got it installed yesterday, PVR3/Anytime, for £49, saving £130!!! I edited my emails and created 2 templates which I have PM'd to others on that forum and it seems to have worked a treat for them too. The advice I was given was to email and not call the Cancellations Department and I followed the steps given and it worked without me having to pick up the phone once.
I would say however, that if you have been on a discounted package with Sky in the last 6 months or so, or if you regularly call up threatening to leave and are then offered a discount to retain your custom, then it is highly likely they won't be so accommodating.
All in all, I'm over the moon. :j I've wanted Sky+ for ages and having had it for just over 24 hours now, I can honestly say I don't know how I lived without it.
Another point to note is that of course after 12 months, you own the Sky+ box/equipment, but with Virgin, you don't own the equipment outright. This means of course that I've got a spanking new Thomson Sky box looking sadly at the gleaming Sky+ box wondering why it's been discarded for no reason. :rotfl:
I love saving money.OGB - Queen of Bling baby...:A0
