  • Hi I was paying £46.49 for digital base pack + 1mb broadband , phoned up cancelled my digital service as there is nothing much on except hours of adverts, I was instantly offered a £7 reduction a month for broadband and reduced my base pack to £10.50 for line rental , I now pay £28.49 a mth for telephone and 1mb broadband a saving of £216 a year ,thankyou forum , though I think it is a recent thing with ntl as I phoned them months ago re the same matter as was given no joy whatsoever ,Iwas basically told to go elsewhere if I didnt like it , now they are nice as pie and very helpful probably due to new competition in the market.
  • Who are you with? I dunno, perhaps I'm just lucky. Or perhaps it's because I'm so charming (ha ha). I've followed the advice on the MSE website and phoned midweek, stressing that I don't really want to leave them, but I'm miffed that I'm being penalised for being a loyal customer, when new customers are paying less for the same service. I've tried to sound like I know what I want without being at all stroppy, if you know what I mean?
  • Thanks to this site I just saved 65 quid by getting sky to send an engineer for free to fix or replace my skyplus box which is not even under warranty. How? I just said I wanted to cancel and gave my reason as a faulty box (which is true) and they couldn't be more helpful. This is in contrast to 2 months ago when I spoke to tech support and they suggested I buy a new one!

is there any method to get the 25% off for the year, opposed to the 3 months at half price?
  • Hi carpy, they offered me both options to choose from. I preferred the guarantee of lower prices for 12 months, hence I went for the 25% off, rather than risking half price for three months then having to phone up again, as I got the impression that only some people on this forum had repeatedly been given the same offer, while others hadn't.

Why not try telling them you've heard about the 12 month recommit to Sky offer from a friend? That's what they call it. Hope that helps somewhat.

    Hi Forum

I have Sky+ at the moment and have the full sports package paying £36.00 a month. The contract is due to run out in Feb so i was wondering has anyone had any money knocked off there sky+ subs.

The way I understand it you have to have a least one premuim channel package to get Sky+ for free( i.e not paying the £10 a month fee)

Iam likely to get 25% off the £36 or half price for 3 months or iam just wishing

    Thanks Andy
  • I was wondering if this would work...it does involve a wee bit of work but hey to save some money why not.

You are an existing customer so you already have the necessary equipment.

Phone up and cancel you subcription. Once cancelled and you are no longer a Sky customer, decide you want Sky again meaning you get all new equipment plus free installation.

Decide to take the £21 per month package (meaning you get all 6 entertainment channels but no premium channels)

Currently they are offering the first four months half price.

The engineer will bring the new box and dish to install and let him do so. Once he has left, replace the new Sky box with your old one and put your new viewing card in that one. Put the new one back in its box and sell it on eBay as brand new. The new dish you could probably sell too but I have not looked into how much you can get. So here is the breakdown in costs:

+£252 (Sky subscription for the 12 months)
-£42 (half price monthly charge for 4 months)
-£70 (selling the new Sky box on eBay - prob you would net £70 after fees)
-£50 (order it online through Quidco who offer £50 cashback)
£90 (Grand total for the year!)

Also if you sold the dish, you could get more saving.

Anybody tried this - would this work?
  • Hi Andy, see my previous post as your package is the same as ours and I was offered either three months half price or 12 months 25% off this week. We've only had Sky+ since September, and got that on a deal too, so I too didn't think there was much point trying. Just shows doesn't it!

    Good luck!
  • We got around Multiroom just by telling them we only had one TV. Not much they can say about that is there?!
  • Don't think you will be able to cancel existing subscription and then re-apply as a new customer with same name & address as the Sky box, dish, installation is subject to an "Interactive Discount " and to quote the terms and conditions "You are only entitled to one Interactive Discount per household". You could try and use another person at the same address but then it hinges on the definition of "household". Another stumbling block about the

is that the viewing card is tied to the sky box by the serial numbers being paired, the installer will get the box serial no. and viewing card no. then phones Sky to activate/pair the card no. & box serial no.
