I'd put off phoning Sky because I wasn't sure they'd reduce our package as we'd only had Sky+ since September.

Hi sarahsaver. I don't mean to imply you are lying, but have you really had it only since september?!?!?

As in less than the 12 months you signed up for when you got it?

Only that's my case too and they were 100% positivly adamant I could not cancel it or reduce it at all - and that was with monumental problems since day one, not even financial difficulties.

I am so mad at the thought that they may have lied to me  Would you mind please confirming that you are tied in for a year like I was, and they still reduced the cost for you? Thanks in advance :)
  • Hi Binxy, this is the first time I've tried to reply to a post so I hope I'm doing it right!

Yup - got the Sky+ September 4th if I remember rightly. They told me I was still tied in for 12 months with the Sky+ even if I did cancel my Sky subs, so I'd be paying at least £10 a month, so would I consider the other two options. Yes, gladly thank you!

    Perhaps I just got lucky?

    Good luck trying again.

Well, got the 3 months 1/2 price today as easy as anything.

I rang customer Services back at the end of Nov/beginning of Dec and complained about deals for new customers and they gave me 1 month free without any threat of cancelling.
Today I rang up and said I want to cancel. they put me through to 'Cancellations' where a lovely Scottish lady offered me te three months 1/2 price package straight away to give me time to think about downgrading my package and read the package information they will be sending me.

Result. Full package 1/2 price until April.
  • Here is the information on the 3 for £33 from NTL.

I have the 3Mb broadband service, I phoned NTL and asked them if I was due a discount as I had all 3 services (phone, television and broadband) they immediately gave me a discount of £8.50 a month.

I like this forum a lot, cheers lads! Gonna try for a SKY discount next! :j

    [EDIT]
25% discount for the next 12 months with SKY! :T

I am moving house in a few weeks and was hoping to upgrade to Sky +. I will blag what I can out of them using the info from the posts I have found and get back to you with what they come up with.

I particularly like the free number !!! It really grieves me to pay so much to contact them. And they keep you on the line by talking about the weather or something like that.

Truly astonishing! This site is ACE - I read this, have the Sky Sports package and have had for nearly 5 years. I have just rung them, 3 minutes holding on, then was offered and have accepted the half price for 3 months offer! :j

    Thanks a million!! :T
I only exist in my own mind - if you can see, hear or read me, you are a product of my imagination.
  • I bought the simple Freesat package from Sky in April with no packages added to it.

They rang me out of the blue in October (note: six months later) to ask if it was going well, and whether I would like to take their general package (i.e. no sport or movies) for £5 per month for a year. So naturally, I said yespleasethankyouverymuch.

So the moral here might well be - if you can hang on, they'll come to you.

One catch though - remember to give a month's notice at least to cancel it at the end of the year, or you'll automatically end up paying the full price. But perhaps, by then, another offer will present itself....
  • Having just saved 25% off our Sky package for a year (see previous post), I thought I'd tackle Telewest last night.

We had Telewest's basic £5.50 package on our spare TV, TalkUnlimited for our phone, and 2MB broadband. Cancelled TV this month as just not watching it enough. (£66 saved.)

Had been thinking about going back to a BT line for phone, so we could use 1899 etc for cheaper calls. Also aware that we could get cheaper broadband elsewhere.

Having looked at their website, I noticed they were offering 2MB broadband to new customers for £14.99, £3 per month cheaper. Expressed disappointment at being penalised for being a loyal customer (works a treat). Was transferred almost immediately to retentions team, where a very helpful guy offered an immediate reduction to that price. Explained that it wasn't enough as their phone package is no longer competitive.

After a while, he also offered me a reduction in the price of our TalkUnlimited package, taking our bill down to £36.51 per month (£8 off so far). Apologised for being cheeky, but would he make it a round £35 per month, and he immediately said yes!

Result: £9.99 saving per month, almost £120 over the year! :rotfl:

(Apologies if this is the wrong forum for this posting, but I thought it'd help people that used Telewest for their digital TV too.)

I don't know how you all do it??? I have tried loads of times for months to get a half price package and they offer me nothing! I had the full package over Christmas and wanted to continue it for the NFL season, so after a month was up I rang and cancelled it. The offered me £30 a month for the full package for 3 months. Not too bad, but not half. I told them it was still too much and so they cancelled my deal as I requested. Now what do I do?
