I have managed to get my installation fee refunded .I would not have tried again without the information on this board to back me up .I have also told them that I do not want the tv service ,as I only have time to watch freeview and that has been taken off .So I am a very happy bunny

    hi,

In wednesday's sun there was a pullout from sky about their packages etc. In the small print there were details about installation fees after 1st July (when sky+ sub becomes free). It says that standard installation will be £30 for both a normal sky box and a sky+ box. Currently its free and £60 respectively.

This is good news for those who want sky+ and obviously an attempt to get more people to shell out 99 quid on the sky+ box itself.

I'm waiting for a sky+ deal so that I can subscribe, I'm more undecided than ever now!

Hope this helps a few people....

I'm not happy with virgin media they cant give me a good enough offer to make me stay I want to move but don't know how to go about it really.

I already have a skybox downstairs but its on the free tv at moment. I have 2mb broadband and 2 telephone lines both talk unlimited no international or mobile though

I would have to move the phonelines at least one of them anyway. When I moved in the house it was BT but when cable came I swapped it to virgin the phone number changed too does this mean do I have a bt line already or would I have to pay for another?

I don't know what is best to do about the broadband where would be a good place to get a deal is the free sky one ok or still having problems?
    Thanx

    Hi All

Just a couple of watchouts when talking to Sky about the new Sky+ offers, the free boxes are all refurbs and come with a 12 month contract. It doesnt matter how many times you ask the same question you are told that it isnt a 12 month contact and the boxes are "brand new" both myself and a colleague at work experienced the same from different Sky reps.

You do have the right to cancel, however it isnt like ringing the retention department, spent over an hour on the phone to them last night, you need to cancel in writing and they cant even agree how long you have got to cancel anything from 8 days (supposed to be broadband only) to 30 days after installation.

The refurb boxes come with a 12 month guarantee but ours is hopelessly slow and comes with a big dint in the right hand side only noticed it after they had gone. They are coming back out to try and speed the box up.

Sky also told me last night that a new Sky+ box would have cost me £49.

If you get a free box and it does say refurb on the box, have a good look at it and if you think that it looks a bit bashed then ask the engineer to replace it.

I was told I was on a 3 month contract, but unusually for sky no paperwork has turned up with the details on. I'll wait to see something before I worry about it.

I did get a letter telling me when the + box would be installed....... after it was installed :D Maybe their depts are behind with all the activity?

If You Are Sill In Contract

I'm still in contract and despite multiple calls there were definitely no offers available to me on my account to get Sky+. The best they would offer me was £159.00 for Sky+ box and installation which I initially ordered but then cancelled as I wasn't prepared to pay top price. As a long shot I e-mailed their Customer Care Escalation Department / James Murdoch and highlighted that this seemed rather unreasonable - the long and short of it as a gesture of goodwill I've now had a free brand NEW Sky+ receiver (a lovely PACE PVR3), free installation and a senior engineer to fit it. The engineer even gave me a second Sky+ remote for free and I still remain on the discounted contract I was on.

It goes a long way keeping it polite and professional and also knowing who to e-mail (james.murdoch@bskyb.com). I didn't ask directly for an offer or whinge, I just expressed my disappointment and invited their comments on the situation and waited to see what they had to say.

TBH you can't say fairer than that, I was still under a Sky contract so thought I'd have to wait until that ended - so I'm very impressed with Sky as they have surpassed my expectations. The amount of goodwill this has yielded from myself can only reflect well on Sky itself.

PS - If anyone decides this is the route they are going to try I would probably not say "I saw someone else was offered this so why can't I have it" - best to contact them totally independently.

Virgin have a new V+ pricing package of £150 one off charge and no monthly fee if you're on the xl tv package (I think it's £100 for the box and £50 insallation) - any experiences of getting this reduced?

I've just bought a used SkyDigibox from someone and it has the "blue card with yellow house". We have an old dish coming down to our flat alreay. I hoped that it would still receive Channel4+5+sky3, but it doesn't. Do I have to pay If I phone Sky and try to activate it just for the "free" channels above? If I would decide that I want to subscribe one of the cheaper packages with this equipment would I still have to commit with a minimum contract time and could I get some discounted deal out them?

They phoned me yesterday (not Knowing the above things) and offering me a free digibox+ 2 mixes+broadband+phone for £7.50 next 2 months , £15 after, but said I had to commit for 12 months. I'm not interested in changing phone/broadband just would like 4 basic mixes or more and would prefer not to commit or shorter term.

Also a bit worried to connet box to telephone with somebody's old card in it.

    Hope somebody can help. Thanks!

Called up Sky retentions yesterday to threaten to cancel for the second time.

They must be in a strong position, presumably with lots of VirginMedia customers coming on board. All they suggested was I reduce my package. No other incentive to stay.

Am currently reviewing my tv, phone and BB looked at BT they can offer free eve/weekend calls + 6mb BB and reduced tv package for £22 pm + line rental, altho if i wanted to watch footie/films would have to pay per match/film. Sky can do free eve weekends + my current tv package and BB for £20pm + BT line rental.

BT would charge £90 set up fees for tv pack but I would get £95 refunded from them and Quidco.
Sky would charge £20 set up fee for BB.

Am confused anybody got idea of best package/benefits/concerns with each?
    It pays to challenge
