I receive all the free channels with a "defunct" Sky card - i.e a box & card from a previous address that I pay NO subscription on. When they fit your Sky + box, I'd assume that has it's own card so I think you'll be OK.

Anyone who knows better, please comment.............

If you are unsure about using the shift story.

I used the following last night. Phoned the 01506 number and asked to cancel. After being put through I mentioned that I wanted to cancel due to the fact that I had spoken to VM about their V+ Box (same service as SKY+ but a little better spec), and they had agreed to install a free V+ box plus free installation and all the channels I have with SKY for £4 less a month.

They tried the spin that if you cancel with VM they take all your kit away, whereas SKY don't, blah, blah. I kept on reminding them that I don't see why I should pay £99 for SKY+ whereas as VM are giving them away free and can beat my monthly payment too. Then was offered £49 for SKY+, again mentioned but VM are giving it for free. Finally the guy said "what if I could tell you that as a special deal I'll wavier the SKY+ box fee and give you free installation". Of course I sounded "could you do that?" (with a big grin on my face lol) "That would be great....."

And so the story ends, SKY+, free installation this Friday. Me getting what I want, and the SKY guy thinking he's done me a favour and feeling pleased with himself for retaining a customer :rotfl:

Was on the phone for a little over 20 minutes, but then we were having a chat too.

One thing I'd found out about getting deals is that if you are pleasant to them and have done your homework (ie. know before you call what you are going to say as a reason). Let the operators think they have done you a favour, it makes their day, they hit their retention targets, whilst all along you knew what you were aiming for anyway.
did not know how to shorten qoute sorry, anyway i rang back on monday for a refund as everyone was getting it free, got my refund and also got the box for free along with installation and 20.00 credit thanks again

two stories same result, mate of mine at worked rang up used the same excuse as in the forum and they wouldnt budge on a free sky+ box until he asked about broadband. Sky eventually offered the free sky+ box and the broadband with the £40 connect fee refunded.

At the same time I called and told them that I wanted to cancel as had been given a freeview box with a harddrive recorder from a friend, they offered straight away without even been pushed a free sky+ box, I then asked about broadband and they also refunded the connection fee.

Both Sky+ boxes are supposed to be new and with no 12 month contract.

Excellent result only wish we had both pushed for multiroom at the same time as we both contacted them as after thoughts and they want a 12 month contract.

    Good luck
  • Rang sky the other day. mentioned i wanted to cancel due £10 per month charge for sky+ as I'm only on 2mix. They advised sky+ subscription is being withdrawn in July (which i already knew due this site). asked them to cancel anyway, so they said they would give me £20 credit to cover 2 months sky+ subs til july. staying with them til something better comes along with virgin!

worth the call if you are currently paying for the sky+ £10 per month facility!

Hi, after hearing about the free sky+, i took the plunge and rang them today. Said i was ringing about free sky+ and she took my details then told me a lot of those leaflets were sent out to the wrong people. She put me through to customer services who fobbed me off. End result is, i didn't get it!

A word of warning, if you are ringing more than once hoping to get someone nicer or to change your story, they put each call and what was said, on your account.

I am on the 6 months at half price and a year contract -maybe thats why it didn't work for me.

Grade A is their term for a re-conditioned box (ie one that has previously had a fault but has been repaired). I received a call from Sky asking me to come back to them, having cancelled a month earlier, and they tempted me by offering a free Sky+ box, worth £159, with free installation - but failed to tell me it would be reconditioned. When it was installed, the cardboard box had a 'reconditioned' sticker on the side, and then two days later I received a letter from Sky confirming they were going to fit a 'Grade A' box.

I feel that Sky knowingly misrepresented the deal they were selling me - but after 4 hours of phone calls and 10 different customer services reps (only one of whom called me back as promised), and I'm getting nowhere fast. Just wondering whether the threat of a call to Ofcom might do the trick? Anyone have any suggestions?
