Does anyone know how to actually get through to Virgin Media? I keep getting 'We are sorry we are unusually busy at the moment. Try another time. Goodbye.'

I have what is now the XL package and I can't see the point but I can't tell them I want to leave or downgrade (and therefore see if they will offer me anything) if I can't call them

    We currently have

    Telephone line 1 £11
    Telephone line 2 £11
    Talk Unlimited £14
    TV Size XL £20.50
    Broadband Size L £25

    Thats £81!! :o

I can't get rid of the 2 phone lines but I can move my supplier. I can downgrade or move my supplier on the broadband and the tv. Come to think of it no-one hardly ever watches the tv anyway.

Now all I need is to get through to Virgin. Anyone know a good time to call them?

I phoned this morning around 9am and only had about a 5 min wait (maybe I was just lucky!)
All depends on what speed broadband you want/how many tv channels etc. I've got size M broadband - 2mb - which works great, TV package L (don't need 125+ channels) and the size M phone (talk weekends). That's costing me £30 a month - they cut down my charges and offered me what a new customer would get. I don't want movie or sports channels, so this package works well for me!

I cancelled SKY in October and have been on freesat ever since. SKY called me yesterday to ask why I cancelled and I told them I thought it was too expensive and that I wanted SKY+ but it was also too expensive.

She offered me free SKY+ box and free installation but I would be paying £37 a month for the subs. I said that I would be interested if they were able to do a half price deal on the mixes but she said she couldn't offer that so I let it go.

Not sure if I'll get another call but I'll wait and see.

Does anyone know if I'm likely to get a better offer????

Rang Sky up to try and get a discount on my current sub which is the top package.
As I'm in the Republic of Ireland I was offered a discount ,the rep said it was only available to ROI.
Sky have no broadband packages here so they cant offer any bundles.
10% off for 6 months or 20% off for 12 months (Commit to 12 months).
Told them I'd think about it.

  • After seeing it on their website I asked Virgin Media about VIP (Very Impressive Package) and was switched to it immediately.

For £101.50 per month I used to have:

    Broadband L
    Talk Anywhere 200
    TV size XL
    SkyMovie 1,3,5,7,9, Sports 1, Sports 2
    V+ Box
    One additional box

I now have, for £85 per month:

    Broadband XL
    Talk Unlimited, International & Mobile
    TV XL
    All SkyMovies & all sports
    V+ Box
    One additional box

And I've had a letter today saying Talk Unlimited will now be £4 less per month so I'm now paying about £20 per month less for a much better package.

They won't tell you that you can get the VIP and make huge savings - you have to ask for it. And on their website it says you are only eligible if you take out a new service. Not true - I had no problem getting it.

Correct. There is not any subscription offers in cancellations anymore.

The only offer available is for re-subscribing customers (on an old account) who can get 3 months half price at the moment...

There are a couple of new customer deals such as an affinity 1/3 off for 12 months if you havn't been a subscriber before.

I'd be very very very wary if you cancel and then re-sign up with a new account. If you are given a new account number, you are taking up a new customer deal which 9 times out of 10 - you will not be entitled to (whether the person on the phone says you are entitled to it or not - these are sales guys and have targets to meet - always double check)

Sky has a whole department who looks for duplicate accounts (names / addresses / bank details etc) of people who have taken up more than one new customer deal. They contact people and can make them pay up full price, or cancel them there and then.
