Well spec wise the Acer edges it simply for having an i3 processor (should be second gen if Google is anything to go by). But some people have an issue with Acer reliabilty, whereas Asus are pretty solid.

If she's using just for what you mentioned, both will do the job though and if she downloads a LOT of music the larger hard drive of the Asus may be a big plus point.

Ignore the silly comment about taking three hours to remove pre installed stuff, you just reinstall Windows fresh (which takes very little time with Windows 8 compared to previous versions) and all the crap is gone.

Nicely specced i5 Samsung over on HUKD for £409 (after voucher code):

(Note the poster's description of it having dedicated gfx is probably wrong, but if your lucky and it's RIGHT it's a proper bargain)
  • I need a new laptop to replace one which has a broken screen.

It is for sole use with a bike trainer, i cant find the software specs but my 4/5 year old Tosh was fine until the screen leaked lcd!

We are an Apple household so not really sure where to start on this. Thanks for any help in the right direction.

The software specs are here (presuming you mean Tacx Trainer software 4): http://www.tacx.com/en/products/software/tacx-trainer-software-4-basic#tab_2

It claims you will need dedicated gfx (though only 512Mb graphics memory), though those are 'recommended' system requirements rather than minimum spec so may work with less.

Sales have now started, so I'm really hoping to pick up a laptop for around £250-£300. I really struggle when it comes to knowing which processors are the best, so would appreciate any bargains people find!

Is there a new 2013 thread or is it just quiet in here?

Am looking for something to watch movies on, surfing, sometimes play games on. Reliability and good battery life would be important too, are there any bargains left? TIA

Just wondered if anybody has spotted something which I might have missed?
I'm not averse to refurbished if the deal's right, i3 or i5 2nd generation processor and running Win 7.

    Thanks.
    David.
