Sorry, posted this as a new thread, then spotted this existing thread - and your topic........Cracking combination of offers to get a 3rd gen i5 with dedicated gfx and 1Tb hard drive for £386 (potentially £367 if you go through Top Cashback), courtesy of HUKD: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/inspiron-15r-intel-core-i5-3210m-win7-hp-15-6in-1tb-1gb-amd-radeon-hd-7670m-386-1378193
Hi techies, i would really appreciate your advice.
I have used computers as part of my job for decades and have an old PC and use of dd laptop at home, but want one of my own.
I currently use them for internet and using MS office software - excel/word etc
I will not be playing 'games' on laptop, but perhaps download films in the future.
Mainly use for internet and as before, MS office etc.
I see folks on HUKD seem keen on this deal.

What are your views ?
I am an old bag - so beyond RAM etc I am confused about need for graphic cards (and which one is best, will it use too much power) processing speed, battery life etc etc.
Just as I get my head around one thing, something else is flagged up as important.
Also - I have heard so much criticism of Windows 8 - should I pay to have it upgraded or leave it as Windows 7.
Many thanks for any advice comments - please be gentle - I am definitely not a techie.:o0 -
It's more laptop than you need to be honest, you could save a 80-100 quid on a lesser specced machine (but then it is way more that 80 quids worth more machine for the money).The_Old_Bag wrote: »Sorry, posted this as a new thread, then spotted this existing thread - and your topic........

As for Windows 8, if you are only familiar with earlier Windows versions you're probably best off sticking with Win7. Windows 8 is claimed to be a little faster but will be a little unintuitive and may take some time (and patience) learning some of it's quirks. And you can always buy a Win8 upgrade yourself for the same price up to the end of february if after buying you are unhappy with Win7 and want to try 8 out: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/upgrade-offer0 -
So is there anything out there, that is £350 (or less than £400), for a laptop with a 3rd. generation i5 processer ?
I have seen them recently, but now ready to buy !
Thanks in anticipation.0 -

Good price for a 3rd gen i5 (as long as you don't need USB3 and don't mind using/removing Windows 8):
