Hi All
After the great help I received when my daughter needed a laptop for Uni, I wondered if anyone can help with my nephew. He is now starting Uni and needs a laptop. He would like to have the following:
HDMI port
Windows 7
Good screen resolution
Webcam
I5 processor
6GB Ram memory
500 GB hard drive
He will be doing some programming (C Sharp) and this is his wish list.
I realise that this may cost more than £350 but I could not find another forum. I would be grateful for any thoughts you many have.0 -

Doesn't excite me, even at £223 with a two year warranty.0 -
Anyone got any experience of Medion - whats the build like?0 -
Hi,
I'm looking for a laptop around £300-£350. My current 6 year old fujitsu is grinding to a halt. I'm not particularly well off, so I need something that will do the basics well and keep on doing them well for years. I'm not remotely image or brand conscious!
I mainly use it for word processing, excel, publisher and ppt. Increasingly I want to do ppt presentations with music and dvd clips integrated - my current laptop can't bear the idea!
So far so straightforward. But a major consideration is that I have severe fibromyalgia, and anything heavy is a problem - my hands don't work terribly well. So I'd really like something light and easy to transport and handle. I do have an Asus netbook, but it won't talk to the Dell projector I use for presentations.
I am tempted by the 20% offer on today - there seem good deals, but I'm not quite tech aware enough to know what the best option might be.
I know it's a big ask asking for advice, but I really would appreciate any help. I'm feeling very clueless!
Thanks.0 -
Hi all me again,
My cousin is after a laptop now for around £300, this is purely for college work and downloading/watching films and music.
She gets 20% off in tesco through a friend so would ideally like to get it from there.
Ive been looking at these 2:
http://www.tesco.com/direct/dell-inspiron-n5050-laptop-intel-core-i3-4gb-500gb-156-display-black/215-3605.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=215-3605
or

i know she could pay a lot less for what she needs, and i have recommended that, but shes keen to get, in her words, "a decent one"0 -
Hi Fatb,
Had a quick look - the dell does look very good at what would be just under £290.
Might be best to ask your friend to go into tescos and have a play and see which sort she likes and dislikes as personal taste does play a part.
I have no knowledge of either model or make - I should have a look for some reviews before recommending.0 -
I'd forget the HP personally (don't rate them at all). The Dell is reasonable for the price she'll pay. Would probably max out the RAM to 8GB (about £30). Only negative really is no USB3, though maybe not a problem if she's already used to USB2 speeds and/or has no need for USB3.Hi all me again,
