  • Hi! I'm looking for a new lappy and have been reading this thread. I seemed to remember a while ago someone recommended a website that gave you benchmark test results for all laptops so that you could compare them (like a league table). Does anyone know what site it's on or where I could find a similar thing - or am I just talking rubbish!!

    Thanks for reading

they are all pretty fast nowadays, your old one should be too if you got rid of the bloat.

  • Thanks for the website info. That was the one I was remembering. This laptop is perfectly fine I'm simply giving it to my daughter and getting one that I don't have to fight her for!

  • It was an Amazon Black Friday deal, standard price is just over £600. It has a number of other neat features too such as hard-drive protection and the ability to use the USB socket to charge other devices when the laptop is off. The only thing it didn't have that I would've liked is a graphics card, but it has the latest on-board graphics apparently, and I'm not a big gamer.

  • hi

both my daughters laptops have died , eldest girl needs hers for university, youngest for GCSEs and the usual other stuff youtube facebook etc

i know ZERO about computers, my husband bought those a few years ago theyre dell inspiron something or other and the hinges went on both of them and the warranties didnt cover the hinges
    so.......

i dont want to bother with warranties

got a max of £380 for each computer and all i know is the names eg dell toshiba acer etc

can anyone recommend a modern machine with good hinges a reliable model and lastly where to buy it from??

i know all machines have a 1 yr warranty but what is the best shop to buy from in the event of needing to take it back with the receipt during the 1st year of a laptops life assuming its well looked after and you dont get the flannel if you have to go back to the shop about its not our fault its your fault dont bring it back to us take it to xyz blah blah blah in other words an honest trader who wont stitch me up in my ignorance

i just need a new laptop with the best specs from a honest trader, so that if anything happens, i wont google and get appalling customer service record/horror stories on the internet like you do with argos or pc world

If your number one concern is customer service and no questions returns you won't go wrong with buying from Costco, they will never question anything you return even if it's well out of warranty.
