Check out the 2 Tesco ones shown on this thread. I have gone for the Acer. You can also get 4% cashback with Quidco, double points and free delivery.

I think you may be incorrect about the Compaq processor speed. the Intel Celeron is much faster according to the cpu benchmark chart. .
Shows what I know.:) Thought cause it said 2.0ghz processor speed it was faster. Learn something new every day..

But the Compaq is a single core at 2Ghz, the Acer has two cores at 1.9Ghz ;)

    Umm.. wrong, in many ways.

The Acer is the laptop with the Celeron. And this Celeron is dual core, at 1.9GHz

The Compaq has a Sempron - also dual core, and at 2GHz.

Yup, your right, meant Compaq, not celeron. Corrected now, thanks for pointing it out

    Hi

Is there any laptop available with the following spec:

    13.3” or nearest
    With a DVD drive
    and 802.11 b/g/n wireless enabled

    for up to £400 - £450?

I have tried to find one but cannot find any for at or near/less than £450.

Also, Argos have what seems to be an excellent spec laptop but I am not familiar with what components are superior etc so would be interested to hear of views on the MSI CR500, summary spec:

    Price £399
Intel dual core Celeron T3100 processor.
    1.9GHz processor speed.
    3GB RAM.
    15.6in screen size.
    500GB hard drive.
    Multi format dual layer drive.
    NVIDIA GeForce 8200M graphics.
    256MB graphics memory.
    2 high quality stereo speakers.
    HDMI.
    1.3MP webcam.
    802.11 b/g/n wireless enabled.
Windows 7 Home Premium operating system installed.

Only problem is that this laptop seems out of stock at all branches, does anyone know of any other retailers who stock this (subject to positive feedback on the spec)?

    Thanks

That covers just about any laptop doesn't it? You say 13.3" screen or nearest - nearest in which direction, are you wanting smaller or bigger?

Ordered the Acer Sunday from Tesco, had a voucher for £6 which was almost out of date, used that and went through Quidco for an extra 4%, delivered free to-day. Nett cost about £301. Seems a great laptop for the money, ideal for my purposes anyway.

Have you looked at the Acer 5332 from Tesco ? If you don't mind the slightly larger screen, this has all the spec. you show for the MSI except for only 320GB hard drive & 2GB of memory (you can add to that later). At £319 you save a lot of money.

  • Hi, my son is after a laptop for schoolwork and was looking at the Dell 1545 BTS but after looking at tesco as mentioned the Acer 5332 seems to have a similar spec - I think? We will be buying the office home and student from www.software4students.co.uk as he needs to make powerpoints. Can you advise on which laptop overall would be better value please?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated! :-)
