I had found THIS SAMSUNG but gather Samsung not well thought of? Have also been looking at Dells but they don't seem highly thought of either? Was looking at them on outlet - but they are so much cheaper I may as well go for 17" (wouldn't use outside home so weight not an issue). In which case there is a refurb Inspiron 1750, Pentium Dual Core 2100, Windows 7, 64 bit, 320 hard drive, 4MB RAM for £352.

Any thoughts on this please? Also, re the scratch & dent - not bothered about casing but could the scratches be on the screen? If not, there is similar spec but 6MB RAM for £391.

Does anyone know what the difference is between a Grade 1 Scratch & Dent & Grade 2? Have been told Grade 1 is worst - is Grade 2 as far down as it goes? And does anyone know if the scratch can be on the screen?

    Many thanks.

I doubt very much if anyone would sell a laptop with a scratched screen and would hazard a guess that Grade 1 is better than Grade 2. But why not contact the retailer and ask them ?

See post #3. Dell Outlet will get you more laptop than most of the retailers. Don't confuse this with the standard Dell website (although they are the same company)

I can highly recommend DELL outlet laptops. About 4 years ago, I got a £1500 2GB RAM, 2GB Core 2 Duo, 160GB HD and Vista Premium for £600 on their eBay outlet site. I've never had any probs with it or DELL and I'm some way off needing an upgrade. I do also have a custom built desktop but I never use it now.....Too lazy to come down from the tree...

The Toshiba. Mind you - I've never had an problems with Vista and I hate all MS operating systems.

I doubt very much it would be on the screen. When I bought mine there were 3 categories 1 was best and 3 worst. I got a Grade 1 and it took me ten minutes to find the "scratch" which was almost invisible and on the casing. I wouldn't be able to locate it now!

Thanks theloft, seems highly unlikely they would sell with a damaged screen, I agree. I did phone Dell but you cannot speak to outlet site, I was given outlet emal address but no reply.

Thanks treepotato. How did you know Cat 1 was best & 3 worst? I can't find this on the site. Reassurning to hear you had such a good experience.

Hmmm, may take the plunge

It said so on their outlet eBay page, gallygirl - they showed pics of examples of the different Grade scratches and dents too. The outlet web site page isn't loading properly for me today, but if they mention Grades, they should blimmin' tell you what they mean! I was very nervous about buying - I'm very anal and didn't want a scratch on me new PC :naughty: , but I was and still am delighted with my purchase.
