Hi Guys I'm looking at the above laptop at Tesco.
Think I've about narrowed it down to the Acer.
    as5332 t3100 2gb 320gb
    or the cq61-310 Compaq 2gb 250gb
Compaq comes with free bag as well.
Which one would you guys and gals go for?
which processor is better the AMD semperon or the Celeron.
Main use would be internet, storing pictures and the odd document
Take it most people would go for the Acer but some reason something is telling me to go for the Compaq really just need a tad of guidance.
Sorry no links not allowed yet:(. They are on the Tescos site
    Thanks in advance Steve

Could you add prices - it makes it easier to give advice!

Just wanted to add that if budget allows I would personally go for a 17" screen now - 15" widescreens really are tiny. Appreciate though that some people do not mind this (and may be happy with a small netbook) but please do think about this before you get one!
  • Hi Supermonkey The Acer is £319 the Compac is £329 both are on the tesco web site unfortunatly cannot add links yet as a new user.
Oh and I'm not too bothered about the bigger screen at the mo as on a budget..

    The Compaq:- http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.207-0828.aspx £319.00
    The Acer :- http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.207-9492.aspx £329.00

The main difference at first sight is the processor - AMD Sempron v. Intel Celeron. But the Compaq comes with Windows 7, and a free case. The Acer has Vista Home Premium and larger hard drive. The Acer has a 320Gb HD and the Compaq 250. Needs an expert to run the rule over them.

  • They both come with Windows 7. Unless I'm reading it incorrectly.I think the processor speed is a tad faster on the Compaq but like you said the Acer has the larger hard drive.

Have a look at the link for the Tesco's ones look similar but better price.
I'm just looking at similar one at the mo which seems cheaper than the one your looking at and a bigger hard drive.
You can also get 6 months interest free if you have or sign up for a tesco card extra clubcard points and a free bag if you when for there Compaq one.
Just need one of the wonderful people to point me in the right direction Compaq or Acer..:D
  • Well I've gone for the Acer over the Compaq. £319 delivered hopefully the right choice. Time will tell.

    The Acer without a doubt.

Unless you're buying a netbook there's no reason anyone should be buying a single core laptop nowadays

I think you may be incorrect about the Compaq processor speed. the Intel Celeron is much faster according to the cpu benchmark chart. You are correct about the Windows 7 on both, it must have been corrected.
