    Afternoon all

Good luck to Jess I imagine it's all done and dusted by this time, but to be honest it's not something I know anything about. Anyway, I hope all is well.

Celyn good luck to you also, sounds like the other job will be just what you need, get you away from Dr Jekyll.

Sammyjig fingers x'd for your OH, hope he can come home soon.

((((Hug)))) for everyone else who wants/needs one, as usual I can't keep the names straight in my head. Special ((((hug)))) for the critters who have to visit the v*t. I know Penny-Dog always hated it; funnily enough, she was better if we saw a lady v*t. I think she may have picked up on my fear of men.

Mr LW has caught my cold; he went to work, but he's had to take a Lemsip (I know cos he told me when he phoned to check if I'm OK). I was hoping to give the shower screen a thorough clean today, but this cold has settled on my chest and I'm very short of breath as a result, so I think I'll postpone it for now.

Second half of yesterday's shepherds pie for dinner, so I don't have to cook. Good thing as Mr LW is on late shift today, and if they get a load of Change Requests he has to stay at work til they're all cleared.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

    Afternoon :hello:

I haven't read the thread yet, hope all is well :)

I've just been made redundant  I'm owed 1 weeks wages, 3 weeks holiday pay and 2 weeks redundancy pay. I'll only spend my usual amount weekly, so in 6 weeks time I'll be skint.

I've just registered with our council's job site, there's quite a few jobs I can do but I haven't got a piece of paper to say so  I'm qualified for nothing

My biz had better build up pretty damn quick or I'll be making soup out of grass cuttings and dandilion leaves  :D

Old Style has had an effect on me and I'm not entirely sure it's a good one.

The Lakeland Christmas Catalogue arrived! Of course I immediately tear open the envelope and devour the pages.

    However...

I keep thinking - isn't that a lot of money? little bear is too young to appreciate that. I am sure I can make that myself a lot more economically. Why would anyone want something like that? What a lot of fuss! So I haven't decided to buy anything at all.

Little bear will be able to appreciate Christmas a little more this year - he will be two years old on 29 December.

The catalogue did make me review my Christmas list. Normally I buy dear heart's brother in law a bottle of Jack Daniels for Christmas and the same again for his birthday on 15 January. I'd like to think it kept him going through the year, but I am under no illusions. However he is now diagnosed diabetic. Hmm. He may be willing to take the risk, but should I have it on my conscience?

A new Lakeland opened near me recently....I'm longing to go, but so far have managed to be strong...(But I just managed to free up a drawer in the kitchen so maybe soon?? :p )

Re the Jack Daniels and your diabetic BIL... I so know where you are coming from!!! My OH walked in on my diabetic friend handing round choccies at our place, and she'd bought cake, choccies, wine and god knows what else that she's not meant to eat!!! After she'd gone OH said "What is it with us??? Are we a Sin Bin??? Our other friend does it too...she's asthmatic and gluten intolerant (and on a diet...) She's banned from wheat and dairy...so she has cake, bread, and CHEESE the minute she arrives.... :rotfl:

I'd be inclined to buy your BIL a Jack Daniels miniture gift set... he can have a little sin - and you can rest easy that you haven't done a ton of damage!

Not the best of days in the Katieowl household as the washing machine died yesterday - or to be more exact the solonoid that opens the door died....OH had to break in to get the washing out, and he thinks it's not worth repairing as we've done several repairs already (it's about 4 years old in chronological years, but probably nearer to 90 years in terms of use, it's on constantly!) Only trouble is OH isn't answering his mobile (Prolly switched off in his bag:mad: ) so I can't sort it out today - Savacentre have one to take away for £245ish, and I suppose that's a few nectar points too...

    Regards

Will try & post properly later - anyone got a good recipe for mango chutney? Floss x

Here you go honey - my mango chutney recipe

    8 oz ready-to-eat dried mangoes
    2 medium onions, finely chopped
    2 garlic cloves
3 pears (could use apples I guess)
2 tsp coarsely grated fresh root ginger
    12fl oz cider vinegar
    6oz light muscovado sugar
    1 chopped fresh chillis

    ¼ tsp ground allspice
    2 tsp mustard seeds
    ½ tsp salt

    fresh ground black pepper
    • Finely chop the garlic and add to the finely chopped onion.
    • Cut the mango in to small chunks.
    • Peel and halve and core the pears, then cut into small chunks
    • Put all the ingredients except the salt into a large stainless steel pan.
    • Bring to the boil, then reduce down to a simmer, stirring occasionally, for 40-45 minutes until the chutney is reduced and thickened, and most of the liquid has been absorbed.
    • Chutney is done when you run a wooden spoon across the bottom of the pan and no liquid falls into it.
    Hope you enjoy it

    Afternoon all,

Many thanks for all good wishes for OH...he slept well last night but is like a bear with a sore head to-day...has to go to see cardiologist this afternoon so maybe he is worried about that....did take in the clothes I had put out earlier, gale coming up here, but they are almost dry so pleased about that.

Having 'dinner' before we go as it will be after 6 when we get back and OH likes to eat at 3/4. Also taking both DGSs with us as all parents are at work or college so can't leave them here alone!

We are threatened with floods again to-morrow...we won't be directly affected but may be marooned if it happens.

    Back later no doubt
