If you are the seller you can at least just sit in your house and watch some TV while you wait to see if someone will turn up, me as a buyer has had to driver for 30mins + to get to the house then get to sit in the car outside the house waiting to see if someone will bother to turn up to show me round.

I think you have it wrong... read the thread....

Certainly I have never done a viewing - estate agent has done them for me. The viewer is looking to buy the house and not me - so I want me out of the equation (the husband would be very annoyed if I was part of the sale... ;) ). So I have always been out of the door more than 30 minutes BEFORE the viewing was due to take place. Then I stay away for at least an hour: so that is normally about two hours out of the house.

If you read this thread, you will see Mums dragging kids to the park in the middle of winter and in the rain for a couple of hours (to get them out of the way). You will then see that they go home (cold and wet) to find that the viewer cancelled the viewing at the last minute .

Yes, it isn't right for ANYONE to cancel, but somehow I think it is worse when a buyer cancels on the seller at short notice.

As a buyer, if you are travelling to see a house, it might be worth reconfirming an hour or two before the viewing.

Edited to add: so possibly 4 hours of "pimping your home" + 2 hours out the way definitely is more inconvenience than an hour int he car... Have you ever sold a home or are you a FTB?

Sorry dont agree you as the buyer may have 5 or more viewings that day but as a seller you may be the only viewing had for weeks so to not show is rude after all the time and effort I put into cleaning and tidying my home to showroom conditions with a toddler this is no easy task!!.

Dont understand how you can be sat outside waiting for someone to show up???? Demand the EA shows you around! and why would the vendor not be home when you have a viewing booked with them unless the EA has said they would do it??

Have to agree its FAR more annoying as a seller, and all of us have the perspective that we have been both buyers and sellers in our time..
Looking around houses is FUN, selling on the other hand is a nightmare.
I have had people cancel, after cleaning the house for hours, DH taking the dogs out in the cold. Waiting in for ages, ok we might have a telly to watch, but its still annoying! Rude buyers, buyers that start negotiating on extras and stay for hours then never offer! Buyers who pull out leaving you with a soliceters bill to pay, when DH has been made redundant etc......Nope being a seller is farrrrrrrr worse!

We had that after a 400 mile round trip to view last weekend! Vendor not in (he was supposed to be showing us around) and EA very appologetic when we phoned  Luckily we had other properties to look at.

That must have been annoying oldmcdonald but at least you didnt make the trip just to view that one house.
Any luck with your viewings, did you find something suitable?

See now I agree , there is no excuse for that and vendor does not deserve a buyer!. Only takes a phonecall to EA and sure EA could have done viewing!

It was! Still, it's the vendors loss - we are cash buyers with nothing to sell and only have to give 2 weeks notice on rental. We are very eager to get going when the right property comes along, and it certainly won't be his property - not booking to view at that one again. EA said the vendor forgot he had a booking!

We found a bungalow we liked - needed a lot of work and had no kitchen so was cash purchase only....an inhereted property. Offered 12% less than asking, vendor said no - offered 10% off asking, vendor said wanted at least asking! Decided it needed too much work to go any higher than we had already offered so we have left the offer on the table for now.

Hoping to go up to look at some more at the end of April.
