Lol yeah, I'm in Staffordshire. We moved up here from Sussex to give the kids more, as everything is so much cheaper, more facilities, easier for them when the time comes to get on the property ladder, but my eldest rubbed someone up the wrong way, and he isnt tough enough to stick it out bless him. I like it here, but not for the sake of my son living that far away! And my in-laws are still in Sussex and not getting any younger (but good enough for babysitting lol) so we will have to downgrade as even though prices have dropped down there it is all still relative

I live in Sussex, I know its dear to live here, I often look at house prices in other parts of the country and I cannot believe how much you get for your money, but then, I love living near the sea and in this county, so its about what is important to you I suppose, we're all different.

    I'm in Sussex too.

And although I still have the pinch of salt in front of me...I've just had an offer on the house. But I've turned it down, as it's a bit low...will see if they come back with anything.

    It's on at £245k (down orig from £289k) and they've offered £220k.

    Hmmm...

  • Hmmm, as an FTB myself that's prob around what I'd offer but you have to wait and see if they improve and what's right for you... might be worth giving them a call later in the week with a counter offer if they've not responded? Depends how much you want to sell...

Yeah, I agree with you, tbh. They've come back with £225k, so we're thinking about it...

And I am freaking out, slightly at the prospect of having to find somewhere to live . But I am pleased. I think...?!

    ;)
  • Funny £225k was what I thought I would offer too as a come-back! Sounds like you have a sale there - a rarity today... well done!

Hope this may help sellers a little:

Kymie, 2 things come to mind. Could you take the kids out somewhere for the day? Agree that it wouldn't be a good idea to have them at home although you are selling a family house presumably..........

Also, can you not go with more than one agent? When we were selling we were on with 2 at a time under a deal called something like "Joint sole agency" or somesuch name which sounded ridiculous! The deal is that whoever sells the property gets paid and the other gets nothing. It does help to bring in a bit of competition between the 2 agents!!!!

Will def consider an open day, but thats not too easy with 6 kids (3 under 5 lol)

This is why we are selling now... We are trying for a family and I would like selling all done and dusted before any little dears come along... ;)

Hi Folks, just catching up on this thread as we've been in London last week (to attend a Judicial Review, no less!) , and while our dear daughter provides internet access, we were too busy for me to keep up with all the MSE forum stuff.

We arrived home to find a letter from our new solicitor (S2 for anyone following my "Solicitor slow over probate" thread over on the Silver Surfers Forum) with a form from HMRC about reclaiming IHT on the parental flat. It was valued at 185,000 for Probate, and went for 180,000. I think we asked 189,950 but without going downstairs and getting out all the paperwork again I can't be 100% sure. :o

We haven't hit the Champers yet, as we still haven't seen the cash ourselves - see my probate thread for why not. But we did treat ourselves to a night out on Friday - went to see La Cage Aux Folles at the Playhouse, with Graham Norton. It was fantabulous, we both really enjoyed it, a nice bit of fluff with burlesque overtones, and just what we needed! :D So anyone in London, or thinking of visiting, I'd recommend it.

Pawpurrs, I'm so sorry that your hubby had the job offer withdrawn. Sheesh, you don't seem to be having much luck at present. I sincerely hope that your luck takes a turn for the better and SOON!

Everyone else, while we have actually sold, I am still following this thread, and am egging you all on and hoping like billy-ho that you manage to sell soon and get a decent price. I still can't believe our sale went through OK in the end. But hang in there, it will happen for you too. And now the evenings are beginning to get lighter and Spring is coming maybe the old nesting instinct will take over for buyers! ;)

My very best wishes to all of you, and all fingers and toes crossed that you have lots of viewings and then offers!

Went to a town as DH had an interview today, and I went for a swim etc. And of course got a call from the EA for a viewing rushed back to let them in, and they cancelled on a drive by. Drats!

UKmaggie....... thanks for those nice words, I am sure my luck will change soon.

Dats Congratulations on the offer! Its a step in the right direction, does the EA think they will come up any more, or is that their best and final, if they are FTB, make sure they can get a mortgage.
    Pawpurrs x ;)
