molierie. i cant recomend car boots highly enough to feed a reading habit. ive just finished the book thief, (present from DD) the plategenet prelude (library) and am starting the boleyn inheritance later tonight. ive have to stop knitting occasionally:rotfl: .
I love phillippa gregory books and am slowly going through her tudor series.
I've got way too many on my to be read shelf the trouble is they are so cheap at the car boots i cant resist them. I got 5 phillippa gregory ones for 50p each:T .

glad your son has found a joy of reading, funnily enough my DH has just found his, ive never known him to read a book but hes read two Len Deighton ones in the last month. it must be something in the air.

    Hi,

ive not posted on this kind of thread for ages, hope no one minds me coming back. I guess I kind of need to off load to someone.

I have my SIL and her family staying with us, and tomorrow they are emigrating to Canada  . I am going to miss her so much, she is like my best friend, and my son is going to miss is cousin, they are so close, more like brother and sister.

I keep telling everyone not to be sad because its not like we are never going to hear/see them again, and in these times, its really easy to keep in touch with people who live abroad, but, im going to miss her so much.

    Hi Jackie

My dsis is in Brampton Ontario and with a combination of facebook, skype, msn and blogs we do manage to keep in touch very well. She has been there for over 10 years and has a much better lifestyle than she would have had here. Hugs to you

    Hi everyone,

Sorry, I've been MIA for a few days. In between being somewhat more poorly than usual, and still trying to be active enough to get some stuff done over the bank hol weekend, while I had Mr LW here for 3 days to help me, I'm afraid going online kinda went out the window.

I hope everyone is well and happy - I've read through todays thread, but I'm afraid my head is so very muzzy that I already can't remember who has said what.

Anyway, we've been doing a spot of decluttering, and will be taking a box of surplus books to the local Hospice Book Shop next Saturday, when we go into Stony Stratford for a veg shop at the market.

Also got my very untidy writing desk tidied out. I'd been putting it off for months because it was quite a daunting task for me, but it was a doddle with Mr LW to help.

Anyway, a ((((hug)))) for anyone who wants/needs one.:o

So far so good. Kitchen blitzed by DH, all worktops cleared, and cleaned, floor washed, while I dusted lounge, dining area still to go, before that we sraped, swept and then hoovered the bedroom and hall, together with the conservatory to try to limit the plaster dust. Then tacked the garage, even good builders are damn scruffy so and so's. DH has now made two trips to the dump/tip and is just hoovering the plaster dust out of the car, but we can now walk through the garage without risking breaking our necks.

You will be so proud of me, I have hung the washing on the new line, (haven't used anything but the tumbler for over 20 years now, but these two loads have been dried outside :A . Another load to go on, but will wait for tomorrow, as the forecast is better, and having to keep my eyes open atm.

    Now for a late lunch!

Aussie, just back read and give your DGS a big hug from me too, when you see him again, it is nearly as bad as the 18 month old whose 5 year old sister shot him in the headwith a air rifle, when their father left it to answer the phone! - he is critical though, hope he pulls through.

N.B. Just rung up Drs to get results of Blood MOT test, and they tell me I am fine!:j :T  Be good now!

Just a quickie to recommend http://www.readitswapit.co.uk/TheLibrary.aspx as a book resource - you can set up wish lists & post a list of the books which you can bear to part with for swaps....

Will post properly later - honest!

    Afternoon All
Today is a lot happier day in Hesters House than yesterday was. DD, DGS & DGD came over for a couple of hours, it was nice to see them all. The delivery I was expecting to wait in all day for arrived by 10, so once DD & the tribe had gone I was able to pop to the bank to pay a cheque in, I also had a scrummage in the charity shop & found a white linen skirt & a pink, white & brown floral one, both will go with my posh blouse, so that part of The Christening is sorted, just the pressie to buy now. I also went into the co-op & got lamb shanks, lamb burgers, posh salmon fish cakes & some liver for just under £7 so that's this weeks meals sorted.
The only thing left to do now is the study & I promise I'll start on it as soon as I finish my cuppa.
    Hugs Hester

Woohoooo Kaat - I feel like a superstar now knowing you stood and made both my soups! So glad you enjoyed them tho I imagine the flavour of the home grown watercress is what made that one to die for! OMG just carried on reading yesterdays thread and you made my chutney too!! I may have to start signing autographs :rotfl: . That is delicious though and I am about to make some as my tomato plants seem to be dying off thanks to no sun and too much rain which gave them all blight.

Hi, Phew just got on the thread and its late afternoon.
Been busy washing clothes (hung out, dried and put away :)) and now got nappies on the line. Went and got DS's hair cut and made his doc's appt, also got some more bits for the freezer (whoopsies mainly) from the local COOP. Treated myself to some craft stuff, for Christmas cards and also some decoupage (kit) and a cross stitch key ring kit to do when DS asleep at night. Back is still sore (have recurring pain) but its working its way down my legs too right now so not very nice . Windows really need washing but til legs are better I am not sure its a very good idea. Might do some knitting later, as have a cardi on the go for DS but we will see!
Hope you are all ok, and will take some time to read through all your posts now.

PS Scot(s?)Rae your breakfasts sound yummy- have you tried a Scottish one ? Porridge followed by a roll on square sausage with red sauce! (or the Aberdeen version, a 'Buttery' with jam).
Mrs-Moneypenny- well done your DD on her exam results :)

Dad's very depressed today cos he can't sit in the garden, he is a sun worshipper like me, and DD is still in bed wiv tummy pains, but think it's due to yesterday's tantrums:o :o
I have cleared out her old room, which i'm doing up for the baby, and just need the not so dear SIL to dismantle and get rid of her old bed, and drawers;)
DG glad you got the all clear from the docs, I just did a bp check and it's sky high, but that's no shock at the mo:rolleyes:
    Tara for now:D

Hi everyone. Regarding my new-to-the-joys-of-reading DS2 - he and DIL go to car boots quite regularly so I'm sure he'll start to build up a collection of books. DIL reads a lot and I know she'll be encouraging him! Mrs Moneypenny - you're lucky if your DH has just got into reading. Mine will be hard to convince although I might get DS2 to talk him into reading the one he has just enjoyed - it might do the trick. When we first met, DH couldn't believe how many books I could read in a week. I must admit to having a book propped up behind the taps when I've been washing up, on more than one occasion and I think, TBH, DH felt he was being neglected! He's a master at feeling ignored and sighing in a 'poor me' way (Donny-gal will know what I mean!). Reading is very important to me; I think it's what keeps me sane and it is so good for the soul. I am reading Anne Tyler at the moment. I got hooked on her when I read The Accidental Tourist and I found another one of hers in the charity shop this morning. Like car boot sales the charity shops are great for books.

Well, I've done most of the ironing - I just stopped for a cuppa and thought I'd pop back on here for five minutes.

I don't know about the rest of you but the weather is pretty grey here. It hasn't rained and I think the washing is drying but it would be so nice to have at least a couple of hot sunny days before autumn really sets in. I feel so sorry for all the school children missing out on decent weather.

Oh, well, back to the ironing board. See you all later.
