Hopefully the police can tell me whether there are any other dodgy stories - can't see much online immediately, but will take a proper look.
I wish I could remember more - I have no answers to the queries raised by others because I remember absolutely nothing...
Do you want to PM me the name of the place and I'll have a look for you? I won't tell anyone what it is, scouts honourTank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Not sure you have had good advice here, first thing you need to do is dispute all the transactions with yr Credit card companies, thats if this post is for real?0

Unlucky for you that you had the credit limit to spend.0

I think a spiked drink is probably the most likely explanation. There is a no amount of alcohol I could consume where I could "lose" a few hours but yet still be able to both remember and enter my pin! If I drank that much I wouldn't even be able to get the card out of my wallet!0

Hmmm I don't know.
I was in the pub the other night, had been drinking since mid afternoon and lets say was rather merry
Unfortunately I had no money left, so paid for a round by Credit Card. Initially I thought "Oh no, I can't remember the PIN", but it just came to me, I kind of knew which keys to press on the terminal without even thinking what the actual number was.
I suspect the OP did authorize the transactions, how else would the lap dancing club know his PIN, but it is possible that they entered a higher figure into the machine because they could see he was so drunk that he wouldn't notice.
I'm not convinced there is much of a case though, we know how strict the banks are getting about Chip and Pin transactions, saying that you must have been negligent with the PIN.
There is nothing to be ashamed of going to a lap dancing club, millions of people go to them every weekend and it is a perfectly legal form of entertainment. I have been to a few over the years, and I can tell you that particularly in Central London, a bill of £1000 is quite possible. Dances can be up to £50 each and bottles of champagne are around £200 - £300.
In fact it sounds like you had a good night, just a shame you can't remember any of it. With regard to the transactions, you should certainly request a breakdown of what you paid for, if they cannot provide this I think things are decidely dodgy and you may be able to approach the police or trading standards.
Don't be ashamed, we all drink too much from time to time. Just do let us know how you get on.0 -
what are the times on the receipts? Are they close together?
My gut reaction is that you may have used your card for a small purchase & that your PIN was somehow recorded by a camera over the pin pad or some sort of skimming.SOA = Statement of Affairs (to find a SOA Calculator, google 'make sense of cards' & click on calculators tab > Statement of Affairs)0 -
It's also possible that they charged 'Extras' on top of what he actually spent on drinks/entertainment. It wouldn't be unheard of for these clubs to charge several hundred pounds as a service charge for hospitality on top of the £100 - £150 they charge for a single drink.0

This is absolutely true, but it should be itemized.
My gut feeling is that the OP is going to have to stomach it, and transferring the debt to a 0% card is a good idea.
But before this, I really think he should establish what he spent the money on and this I why I suggest requesting a full breakdown from the club.
If this is Central London (although I don't think he has specified as such), the clubs there are used to footballers and city bankers enjoying nights out and spends into the 1000's are quite common.
I remember once being in the bar of a well known Park Lane hotel, and a round of drinks came to £100. Straight onto a slow stooze card for that one :eek:0 -
Hi There
I have been reading through your post and got my hubby to read through it and thought we'd make a suggestion...........
Ok, so you've got the receipts for the transactions, these will have the times written on them, now, you should report the matter to the police, get a crime number, then you are within your rights to ask to view, or get the police on your behalf to view the cctv footage. As all areas where you are using a card will have cctv within business premises , not on the keypad but on your face, as a business these people by law have to have a runtime and log of all cctv capture which they have to keep for a minimum of 28 days,so you should be able to match up these times if you act quickly.
our only other thought is that........ you say your friend got you into the club, could it be that for example that, it was 'your round' and you needed a 'wee' so asked your friend to get them in and gave him your card and pin..... either way cctv should be able to prove it as like I said above, all areas for card/payment transactions are covered by cctv. Do you check the amount that is showing on the keypad when paying?
Just a few thoughts.
PS. My hubby says you might of had the time of your life, Just a shame you'll never remember it........... SS, it's ok I've slapped him. Let us know how you get on xxQuit Day - 8th July 2009.0 -
