How to cancel Setanta Sports

I have been trying to cancel Sentanta by broadband for the past 2 weeks, I have sent out 14 emails with no communication from them at all. Without a doubt the worse people I have ever dealt with, I wish I had paid by direct debit rather than credit card.0

I have cancelled my direct debit at the Bank and when I told setanta this they said that I couldn't cancel my account as I didn't have any payment details with them. When I said that they weren't getting any more money from me, they told me that my account would go to a debt collection agency and may affect my credit rating. How can this be when I don't owe them anything. Are they trying to scare me?
I have also emailed them to tell them to cancel.
Is there anything else I should do?0 -

hi diamond1897
this is a standard scaring practice, if you dont get at least a couple of these you will feel left out .
of hundreds of reviews i have read (its getting to be a hobby} on loads
of different websites nobody has reported any debt collectors caliing.
as ive commented before the companies dont buy these debts unless its worth a lot than afew missed subscriptons.
same applies to credit ratings.
if setanta reported everyone who they thought owed them money (and this applies to even people who even been told by setanta they have
cancelled sucesfully and still take more money) there would be so many
that the credit rating companies woul smell a rat.
if you owe them money why dont they stop you from being able to watch their progams after first couple of missed subscriptions.
if you missed payment on your gas, electric or phone you would soon be
diconnected.
as you may have read i was watching still after 6 months before the first letter arrived.
after severa letters loads of emails and only 2 phone calls by me (0191 No) i was told i owed them £10.99 .how can that be after my last payment was last NOV 17 . so my subscription must been about £1.83 a month in that case i would not have bothered cancelling if it was that cheap. no wonder they are in a fix.0 -
setanta has failed a to find the money in time and they have no way back
they will be sadly missed , like a hole in the head .
they also owe inland revenue 50 million pounds [ they still owe me a fiver ]
do you think i shall get it back .
sorry about the rank and file losing their jobs , but not the rest of them .
what am i going to do with the time i will have now not keeping an eye on
their antics .0 -
Please can I ask for some specific advice?
I want to cancel Setanta now they have lost the EPL rights - I've subscribed for a long time so am not under a 12 month contract or anything.
If I cancel the Direct Debit wouldn't this just be the easiest solution?
It seems so many people have tried to do things correctly in this thread only to be messed around so much.
Also, it seems unfair I will have to pay them another £26 now they have lost the EPL rights, when the only reason I signed up with them was because they had rights to some of the EPL matches. Surely I can just cancel the DD on the basis that they can't now provide me with what I signed up for?
Any advice appreciated, I certainly don't want to go to the trouble of calling loads, e-mailing, writing to two addresses and all of that hassle when I could just cancel the DD!
What do you think - just cancel the DD and ignore them?0 -
You will have to cancel it with them. They will come after you otherwise. You would have to more EPL matches between now and being cancelled anyway.
If they go into administration then you are out anyway. My last payment is on the 22nd. Not much chance of me escaping that one.
You only pay one month from cancelling. If your payment is due on the 22nd like mine then that will be your last payment. Should only be between £9.99 and £13 depending on what you pay.
Some others say they won't pursue. It is up to you if you want to take that risk.0 -
hi iksmada
if they cannot provide the service you were offered when you first subscribed then they have broken their own terms and conditions.
email them at requests@setanta.com explaining why you are going cancel
your DD .
you will get the usual request for bank details and threats if you dont just
ignore them .
they are going to get loads of subscribers cancelling their DD.
and those who paid with cards are going through the misery of of getting
them to exept their cancellation requests.
they will drag these out as long as they can.0 -
Hi all:) I am horrified at the way Setanta operates after reading all the posts here, and have just cancelled our direct debit online and sent an email to Setanta to say why I have cancelled. I do feel for those who are paying by credit card though. I wish you all the very best in getting it sorted.xxDo a little kindness every day.;)0

to foreward to requests, but they would not do that.
more delaying tactics, claiming they have no record of cancelling email.
still showing 46 epl on their website, while they are sorting themselves out.0
