I would say to "ALL READERS". CANCEL your direct debit immediatly and inform your bank or credit card issuer (if you pay by credit card) to stop any further payments.

No doubt about it. SETANTA are going bust!!

Sky Will buy one of the 2 remaing rights and either ITV or Channel 5 or BBC will buy the other. Reason for this is that sky are not allowed to have all 6 viewing rights.

BEEN WAITING LONG TIME FOR THIS TO HAPPEN as my monthly sub went up by £12.50 for the same amount of games and also unable to watch England Away Games without subscribing to setanta. Sky only Charge £7.50 P/M for over 130 games.

You cancel a direct debit with your bank, and should also inform the company.
To cancel a continuous credit card agreement you have to apply to that company, the credit card company won't do it for you.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

I'm sorry but for a money saving forum this is poor advice. Setanta are not in administration (and even if they were they may still trade as a going concern) and by cancelling your DD you are breaking your contract by not giving the minimum notice. This may lead to dead collectors troubling you, more so if they go in to admin as creditors will want as much as possible of what they are owed.

As a side note I doubt any Free to Air channel will pick up the rights as they cant afford it over someone like ESPN who are desperate to enter the market.

ignore pokerlad,s advice, when did setanta stick to any terms or conditions.see all these reviews where people
have been robbed by these tricksters . if you cancel and setanta suvive you will still get signal and after sometime [6 months in my case see page 15 review 290 ] you receive a letter saying they dont have your bank details and ask you till fill in a direct debit applicatoin enclosed with the letter. they will then take what you owe them.
they sent me three of these letters, which i ignored .then i got the nasty phone calls and have not heared anything since.
of all reviews [hundreds] no one has said they had a debt collector call on them.
if they dare take anyone to court and the defendent prited all the complaints on the web and showed them in evidence they would not stand a chance
guardian news paper reported at 15.59
espn not interested in taking over setanta only of picking over what may be available after they go under. [ i hope ]
debt collecting firms by the debt say from firms like setanta cheaply and would not interested unless it was several hundred pounds as it would not be worth their time .
debt collectors are not bailiffs.who are sent by courts.

Wow. Ok people I leave it to you if you want to follow this wisdom. What I dont get is if you were happy to subscribe what has changed? While they are still transmitting why cancel? Do you honestly believe that the day before they go bust they will empty your account?? Of course they wont. And if they do go into admin just cancel then. You will know when to do it the screens will be blank! Panic over nothing.

And of course ESPN wont buy Setanta as a company they will wait till they fail (more likely with every cancelled subscription) and then bid for the rights. But whoever buys the rights will charge you to view them just like Setanta did.

Let's not get carried away suggesting Sky charge reasonable prices. For Sky Sports 1 only it's £11 a month and for the full Sports Pack (which you'll need to guarantee getting all games as some end up on Sky Sports 2) it's £19 a month. It's not £7.50.

if you resd my review on page 15 leter 290 you see i was tricked into subscribing by being offered a deal at £5.00 a month, nothing about being
    only for 3 months.
there is a princible matter here.i phoned their cancellation debt and told them [tony] what had happened and and he said he would , ithen stopped the DD and. they had already taken the first 2months subs [ £11.00, not
    £10.00 ]
so expected to have at least 2 months viewing and when it it was still on after this i thought it maybe some sort compensation for messing me about. (how gullible can you be).
so anthing that iterested me i watched woudnt you.
it wasnt till i got the letters that it smelt a rat.
it was not till i checked money saver expert reviews (and about 6 other sites ) that how badly this company has treated people, some going into
the red with their banks because of them.
you can go through their procedure to the letter and they ignore you attempts so they can stiil get the cash in.
we have all seen how letters even recorded delivery dont seem to arrive.
email that promise to reply to but dont .
its all done to keep you subscribing.
but the word gets arround and only stupid would touch them with a barge pole.
thats why they will never get enough suscribers to make to the 1.9 million to break even never mind make a profit.
if who ever may take them over and learns by their mistakes and treats their customers with a bit of respect ,then i for one would consider subscribing again.
  • I've just rung Setanta on 08712-003322 and changed my credit card recurring payment to direct debit. Only took two minutes and there were no problems at all. The agent asks you to confirm basic details and then will ask for sort code and bank a/c number.

Or you could have rang 0283 082 4020...its the same number and wouldn't have cost you as much :)
