These guys are extremely difficult to cancel contract with. I signed up on 24th April 2009 to watch the IPL. I was going to cancel on 21st may as this would have given them one payment after the last billing date. However they took payment out on 20th May! I then called and sent an email to cancel contract on 21st May and cancelled direct debit at the same time. I was badgered by a series of calls and emails..some offering discount plans and some saying I owe them one more payment.
I did not want to go through a hassle and I called them (using 028 number via saynoto0870.com) and one of the guys said they would send me a final bill. 3 days later I received a call asking for reasons for discontinuing. After I answered they disconnected service! I had paid for 2 months but they discontinued after 40 days of service. I did not have any intention of talking/dealing with setanta again..so I left it at that.
3 days later I get a mail threatening to they would pass my details onto a debt collection service! I wrote a big email threatening legal action. Finally I got a mail from their complaints escalation division saying that although I needed to pay more, they had terminated contract as a good will gesture!:rotfl::rotfl:
As a good will gesture on my part I left it at that!:j

Hello,
Just a wee question re Setanta Sports - did you have to send the inscription to a bank in Luxembourg? I have a number of friends who like me joined up and are attempting to cancel, but we seem to be debited by different banks and I appear to be the only one who pays into a Lux bank! Could you let me know if this is the case with you?
Many thanks!

hi lule86
have checked on last direct debit taken (nov 17 ) shows setanta sarll-dtt
what ever that is.
i know they are registerd in luxemburg, it makes yoou wonder what they are up to.
have your friends payments taken before or after yours were taken
may be they are up to another scam.

Hi aceti,
I had setanta sarl written after my debit too and I looked it up on the internet to find that it's their holding company in Luxembourg. Other people I've spoken too pay into A&I and others have no idea (bcb?)... But I don't know if I'm paying into a Lux account or a UK one (which would be easier to be repaid from I would presume!)! Do you have any idea?
Did you managed to cancel ok otherwise?
Many thanks for your help

hi luli86
see page 15 reply 299 on this thread about my problems
with setanta.
you cant cancel you suscription if you gave card details
only setanta can do that, and they make it as dfficult as
as possible to do so, as the cash keeps rolling in.
if you subscribe by direct debit you can stop them withdrawing anything from your account by cancilling
the DD online or at your bank.
they dont like that one little bit and try to get you to give them your bank details saying you have not cancelled even if you follow their conditions to the letter
if you phone them on 01915013482 this the cancellation dept.
this cheaper than the 087 no and alot more helpful.
if you did subscribe on a card, why not tell the bank you lost it, theywill have to give you a new one.
maybe this will work, what ever means you use they will
keep chasing you and make threats about debt collectors ignore them.

I bank with Northern Rock and my direct debit came up as "Automatic Alarms" for Setanta. Sneaky sneaky. Cancelled it months ago. They haven't rang back :)

• :jI’ve actually been able to cancel setanta!!!!! After reading many posts I emailed requests@setanta.com on 25th May and sent a letter recorded delivery on 26th May. I got an e-mail confirming my cancellation on 26th May and this advised subscription would end 30 days from next billing.
My payment is made on the 28th of each month so I worked out that my last day of viewing would be 27th June..........but apparently not.
I cancelled my direct debit at the bank today and surprise surprise my viewing ceased also. I have phoned to enquire and been advised that my email was received on 26th May and my last payment was 25th May so my last viewing date is actually 17th June!?
By my calculations the 17th June is neither 30 days from the 25th or the 28th. After insisting their dates were incorrect the operative double checked and advised it was still correct. As they were sticking to their guns I’m going to write to the CEO, as this appears to be the only way to get a written response. In my eyes I’m not getting the viewing that my last payment should cover.
When you cancel and request that they confirm your last day of viewing they just ignore your request so it’s anyone’s guess when your viewing actually ends. At least when you cancel sky they advise you of your last day of viewing.
My advice is email to cancel your subscription. After you receive your cancellation email and your last payment is taken, cancel your direct debit.
As they struggle to even get their dates correct, I’m not surprised their finances are as bad as they are. Even if they do manage to pay the SPL and the Premier League the money they owe, I for one will not rejoin. The coverage is second rate compared to Sky, as are the commentators and the customer service is a joke.
