  • Hi Everybody,

I wonder why this crap company is being allowed to operate in UK. I am now going through the pain of cancellation and nothing has chnaged with this company, since the first page of this thread.

I work for Ofcom and intend to raise a complaint. Can I have some ideas as to what can be done? I shall go up to the seniormost person responsible at Ofcom to deal with this company, but would appreciate any guidance on how to go about this. Shall we prepare a group complaint with all the members on this thread signing up to it? Any ideas welcome.

im still waiting for confirmatoin of cacellation, but have recieved another letter saying i owe the and they going to "suspend" my viewing [ have now done that].
good , as i said the only reason they left it on so long is they can build up the debt. they cant sell on the debt to a debt collection company if its not worth that companies time.
emailed setanta at newry [onfreeview@setanta .com, got a email back, will reply in 5 days of cause they will.
in the letter the mail i put about checking with their cancellation debt , as they can confirm my cacellaton
request back in nov. and saying i want a reply in 36 hours with a suitable opology if not i will send copies of all my emails to michael orourke, rodger hall and watchdog, but i am not holding my breath.
a neibour of mine son is a partner in a law firm in london and i told him the problem i having with setanta ,i showed him on my pc all the complaints on money saver
and [ my neibour has not got pc. he is going to look into "those shisters" as he called them and he will advise
me and help me if i get any more legal threats a lot what they do is illegal under uk & euro law sutch as increasing
subscriptions without 30 day notice so you can cancell if you dont wish to pay an increase.
just a note to trebor 21 there is only one N in setanta
not worry ive done the same thing.

I'm looking to cancel my subscription, unfortunately my last direct debit came out about 5 days ago, so it looks like I'll have to pay another before my subscription can end. Thing is, I don't know my setanta account number or customer ref. Is it likely to be the ref number on my direct debit?? From previous experience I want to avoid ringing them if I can. Any advice appreciated.

    hi ynwa

at least the ones i talked to.hope you get sorted out ok.
has anyone know of any person who has had debt collectors or the such call
on them, i think you would need to owe setanta a large sum for them to bother setting these firms on you. [ well i hope ].

I have also tried to cancel with setanta rang on the 21st may which is my billing date ( as when I signed up I asked what to do if I wanted to cancel the person said just ring up on the 21st and they would cancel it) he told me to send an e-mail (which was never mentioned on sign up) so I did. Today I receive a text message to contact them about my account so I rang and was told they hadnt received my e-mail but then she said oh yes we did and my subscription would end on the 11th July and they would take a months money from my bank account in June ( I have cancelled my direct debit)

How do they come up with this date its way past the 30 days notice they need can anyone advise on that.

I have had setanta in the past and rang up and cancelled over the phone with no problems so dont know what the difference is this time.

Hi Blondie...the reason your date is past 30 days is likely that it is 30 days from billing date for notice.

    Hope this helps

It seems, that Setanta have treated the billing date of 21/5/09 as having already passed at the point of your cancellation notice. Cancellation would then have been processed to take effect one month after the 21/6/09 billing date. Cancellation would then take effect from 21/7/09.

However, other posters, on Digital Spy, have suggested that where customers pay by Direct Debit, Setanta have been cancelling viewing 10 days before the end of the final month- something to do with "direct debits being claimed from the banks 10 days in advance of when they come out of customers accounts".

This could explain why you've been told that your viewing will end on 11/7/09.

Looks like the end is near for Setanta ! Rumour is they have defaulted on latest instalment of 3million to Scottish Premier League. When asked about this Setanta replied ' No comment' So don't forget when Setanta or Debt Agencies come chasing just say 'No comment'
