I promised to post again to confirm (or deny!) that my cancellation went ahead (30 days after my last billing date) and it has done so.
Thanks to all those who have had to suffer at the hands of Setanta, your efforts seem to have made the cancellation process a little easier for the rest of us...I hope :beer:0 -
After your final payment has been made and you are in your final 30 days of viewing before Setanta cancel your viewing please be aware that if you cancel your direct debit they then immediately cancel your subscription. I made my final payment on 4 April but yesterday (Friday 24 April) I cancelled my direct debit at the bank to ensure Setanta don't take any unauthorised payments. However I got home from the bank to find the Setanta channels already cancelled. I have spoken to both customer services and cancellations and this apparently is policy and that I could write to Head office if I wished. I don't think I will waste my time and money. I just confirmed I would make sure as many people as possible would be made aware of this policy and that I would never go back to a company that takes money for a product but doesn't supply that product as agreed.0

Setanta have one of the worst customer service departments I have come across. I took out a monthly subscription, and they charged me for a year. It took them 3 months to refund that!!! Also why does the website state you need to call to cancel, then the customer service person state you can't cancel over the phone.0

I've received a letter today threatening to pass our "DEBT" to a debt collection agency and this could affect our credit rating. I'm going to ignore their letter just like they have ignored my three emails. My partner even called them to cancel too and still they say in their letter that we haven't made contact. As far as I'm concerned I don't owe them anything, just like they don't owe us anything (Apart from better Customer Service, of course)0

i thought i was alone on this one with setanta and trying to cancel, when my OH was living at his fathers he wanted setanta on but he didn't have an account for the DD so i gave them my account number etc to make the monthly payment. i got a call from OH on the sat telling me i was on my own for a day out as the football was on(lovely eh)folowed half an hour later by an angry call that it had suddenly cut off(Karma anyone lol).
Checked the bank and DD had been taken i tried to call setanta but they wouldn't speak to me cos it was his name on their account so he called but then they wouldn't discuss bank details as it was my bank account so we had to wait till we were together on the monday. called on mon and all they were interested in was why we had waited so long to report a problem.
Told it was a problem in our area and would recieve discount etc for time lost. never got reconected and they still took the full DD. Kept calling and eventually gave up and cancelled. then OH got a call warning his setanta would be cut if he did not pay, he was angry that after having paid 4 months only got to see 30min of a game and they say he had it over 4 months. got it sorted eventually and got a refund.
..................
BUT a few months later i was checking my bank and noticed i had DD coming out for setanta so i was straight on the phone to them, after checking OH hadnt asked for it back on. turns out OH dad had received a call ment for OH and being a wee bit deaf didn't realize they were asking if OH wanted to join again. anyways i had fun argueing that 1) it was not the account holder that asked for it to be put back on.2) it was my bank account and i had not been asked my permission.3) they were still not getting setanta.
at least it is sorted, and the phone number has been changed since so OH dad wont be getting anymore calls.slowly going nuts at the world:T0 -

Hi. I've phoned them and emailed them and had confirmation they are stopping my channels. It's meant to be 30 days after my billing date. Can anyone explain to me though why, when my billing date is the 10th of may, they are stopping my viewing on 30th may, when I will have paid up to the 10th of june. I will miss an england match on 6th june which I will have already paid for. I rang them about this and theysaid I had only paid up to the end of may which is rubbish cos it was the 10th of July when I signed up, then they gave me loads of offers to stay on over the summer so I got nowhere.0

Hello, after reading through the 14 pages on this thread I must say i'm a little nervous about cancelling my setanta subscription, but i'm determined to do it and was hoping those who have been unfortunate with these pirates could give me some advice on how to cancel this if at all possible as smoothly as can be.
I've noticed that they say it will be cancelled 30 days after your next bill, Well currently I have 2 sky boxes both with Setanta subscriptions, I took out the added option of a second subscription for £2.99 a month. The thing is what Setanta have done is not take the payment as one, I have 2 payments, the first is the standard £12.99 per month and the 2nd is being taken at the end of the month for the £2.99.
When I cancel these subscriptions which one will be the one I need to use, as I want to cancel my DD online after the 30 day period of my last payment, I'm just aware that i'm sure they will try and screw me over by saying I needed to pay for the other monthly subscription.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.0 -
I would make sure that you are quoting both account / viewing card numbers in all conversations (letter or verbal) remember, you will pay 1 more full subscription as the notice is 30 days from next bill.
No need to be nervous - if you follow the directions of providing all the information they your account will be processed.
What you have to remember - 000's of people deal with setanta on a daily basis and are more than happy with the outcome of the dealing they have, whether it is subscription/query or cancellaltion - the nature of forums dictates that the few who have a problem will be the ones who post.0
