I emailed setanta on 20/02/09 with my cancellation and I have never had any reply from them!! Nightmare, I'm hoping it goes through ok.
  • They shouldnt really take the final payment for freeview as you said they took a month up front. When I eventually got my refund for the money they "illegally" took they did indeed refund this 1st month.

All I can say is keep emailing as they will probabbly deny recieving the email. They are an absolute shambles and the disorganisation ( or is it sheer greed ) will be the end of them for sure.

Don't be so sure they won't still take money out of your account. It's not over yet!

Don't worry, my lack of trust in them does mean I'll be keeping an eye on that. I'll post again when they either do or they don't keep their word.

My last payment technically should have been in Feb.

I find out in the next few days if they are committing fraud on me too.
  • I signed up to Setanta on the offer from the Mirror. I couldn't remember the exact date but it was around 9th Decemeber, which means that I should have had payment taken on the 6th February. I contacted my bank on the 3rd Feb and cancelled the Direct Debit. They told me Setanta had already requested the money from my account and there was nothing I could do to stop it further, but that I should Cancel it so no more payments go out, which I didnt mind because there was a few games on anyway in Feb. However, on the day Setanta took my money they cancelled my subscription. I contacted Setanta and they said they would refund me. 2 Weeks later I was still waiting for a refund and they said it would take 30 days. I have just gotten on the phone to them now and they said I will not be getting a refund because I broke the terms and conditions for not having an active payment setup with them. I am not sure how Direct Debit works but I thought they can only query the account on the payment date, and if no money comes out then they cancel, otherwise they wait until pay day. Is there anything I can do to get my money back or should I just cut my losses, even though I paid for a month veiwing that I never got.

    Neil.

After all my troubles with Setanta - overcharging and then cutting me off early - I had given up ever seeing a refund or reply to my continous emails. However I had an email from the directors office yesterday apologising and offering 2 months free and then 3 months at £6.50. I told him I'd be happy with just what he owes me - one months viewing. I don't want to get back into a payment scheme with them. They have switched my service back on so I consider that a RESULT! But I will never ever ever join Setanta again, too little too late from them unfortunately. These people could easily be so much better!

You MUST check with them that your account was cancelled, never assume. To me it sounds like they have just re-enabled your account and will continue to take money out after the 2 months "free" service.

My account WAS cancelled, I never assumed. And they wont be taking any money, it was me that cancelled the direct debit and they had cancelled my viewing because nobody could find my account - I had been deleted! Although I will continue to check my direct debits, but they do not have my bank information so I'm 99% sure I wont see it re-appear.

ask yourself: if they had fully deleted you, how can they have switched your service back on?

Because I had to re-send my details? - which did not include bank details!
