  • I too got the £7.50 deal for 6 months when the price rose to £12.99 from £9.99. However this has now ended. I called up today and was offered £9.99 for a full year. I said I didn't watch sports during football close season and could I have it for 4 months instead. There was much cajoling and hot air (from them) but they wouldn't budge on their full year offer. I said I would just cancel and I will (after this weekend's football). Surprised with recession that they are so inflexible. To be honest it will be no big loss.

Thanks...thats a pity...to be honest I'll probably keep the subscription going ..I do enjoy watching the Scottish football ( although the Edinburgh derby today was a nightmare ) and Setanta seem to be getting the pick of the English games . ( I also enjoy their Sat tea-time slot for a Premiership game - it suits me )...factor in the FA cup games ignore the inferior coverage and pic quality ( compared to Sky ) and there's enough to keep me paying till the end of the season. - I would have preferred to have bartered for a reduced sub again tho'.

Like you theres no way I'm paying during the close season so I'll cancel then...I can always then come back as a new subscriber if they have any deals :D

Also been offered the £9.99 per month for 12 months deal, but I don't want to commit for such a long period. I then asked if they had any offers similar to the ones they use to give before (e.g 3 months) and they said customer feedback has been that customers would like to see more longer offers so they don't do the shorter offers anymore.

Exactly, normally they offer really good deals to keep you. Ideally I would like to stay but looks like I'll also be cancelling.
  • Hi
I cancelled setanta received no reply and then stopped my diirect debit.
I have now received a letter saying that having failed to make a subscription payment that I am liable for any remaining payments within remaing contract and that to avoid possiblility of this debt being passed onto a debt collector agency for further action to contact them to ensure any outstanding balances are cleared.
I am bit worried as to wether they will do this any advice on what I should do now.
  • Hi all i also have had a nitemare with this crazy company,i emailed them to cancel my subscription on the 23rd of november, recieved an email back on the 1st of december saying that my account would be cancelled 30 days from my next payment that was due on the 22nd of december.
On the 24th of december which i have proof of, a payment of £12-99 was taken out my bank account by setanta,And after this payment was made i cancelled my direct debit.
Now yesterday i recieved a letter from them telling me they never recieved a payment which is rubbish as i have a statement from bank here telling me it has,and to top it off they also cut off my service on january 6th and when i was at school that was certainly not 30 days,i for one a sick of this company and they can send me all the letters they want and if they do as they say in letter put my name to a debt collection agency i shall have great pleasure taking them to court and let tem pay the costs.
I for one would say any one thinking of joining this lot please please please think again good luck and happy new year everyone except for setanta.;)
  • Hi guys,

Just curious as to what people are actually putting in their e-mails. I'm considering canceling as I've had no picture for over 3 days and even before that the quality of the picture and sound was absolutely rubbish. Add to that I've not watched it for about 3 months and I really don't see the point of continuing to pay for something I don't want.

I don't remember ever getting an account number sent to me from them, although I have a DD reference number which I'm guessing may be it.

    Thanks in advance,

    Ben
  • I have also sent further E mails and I am sending a further letter with copies of their letter and my previous letter. Had a break in phone calls but started again today but do not answer phone to unknown nos and reading posts on here don't think would get anywhere with phone calls.

In my letter I have asked that as they request cancellation in writing that I am also asking for any further connumication in writing.

Has anyone else received a letter saying they will pass on to debt collector and if so what has happened. Thanks

I put in a cancellation request via e-mail last week and today I received a reply from setanta apologising for the delay and that my subscription will terminate 30 days from my next billing date. To be honest im hoping they call me during the cancellation peroid and offer me 3 months half price as they have done to others.

Hi, just put in your full name, address and if you can't find your account number I think putting down your sky card number (if you have a sky subcription) should be fine.

I sent an e-mail to Setanta and they sent an e-mail back stating that the account would be cancelled 30 days from the next billing date. This was duly done without fuss and I have had no probelms.
They did phone prior to cancellation date and offered 1/2 price for 3 months but declined.
With all the bad press I was concerned but they were good and I have to admit that I was with them for 18 months without any problem.

For what it's worth, my experiences...

I emailed Setanta on 9/11/08 to give my 30 days notice from my next billing date which was 11/11/08. I received an automated email confirming receipt of email same day. My payment was taken on the 11/11, I then cancelled my direct debit.

On the 21/11 I received an email from them confirming that my account would be cancelled 30 days from my next payment! I ignored this because as far as I am concerened I have done everything correctly. Anyway, last week I received a letter similar to the one received by pepsiemax, regarding the missed payment and passing my account onto a debt collector.

Anyway I called them this evening, the guy I spoke to said they didn't receive my email until 13/11 which was after my billing date. When I said I sent it on 9/11 and also had a response acknowledging the email he said I would need to send copies to their head office, if I wasn't willing to pay the amount today!
Regarding the debt collectors, I asked for my account to be put on stop whilst I sent the letter, and he said don't worry about that as it would be a long time before that happened.

Up until this point, I hadn't had any issues with them (apart from poor signal and sub standard programming but that's for another thread) but this experience seems to be in keeping with the majority on here.
