How to cancel Setanta Sports

I too am stuck in the process of cancellation and am disputing the 60 day (+ billing period date) condition. My dispute with Setanta is whether the revised 60 day contract is applicable or not.
I received an e-mail at the end of June advising new price and a link to revised T&Cs. The link however leads to T&Cs which are not the same as currently posted on their site and still include a 1 month's notice of cancellation (the link still shows this). I don't believe I have been notified of any other changes to the T&Cs and have yet to receive confirmation from Setanta of how & when they notified me of their "new" 60 day T&Cs.
I would be interested to hear how other people were notified of the changes and whether similar misleading links were included.0 -
I today have just had a successful attempt at contacting Setanta to cancel my account. i spoke to a lady called "Jessica" on 0871 200 3322 option1 then option 2 and she asked me to do the following: -
I sent an email to customerservices@setanta.com including my name, address, cust ref no and sky viewing card number
She said that I would receive a confirmation email saying this request was received (I did) and then it would take 30 days from now for it to cancel fully (I will be billed for October then finished). I hope this helps anyone who wishes to cancel.0 -
my son came home for the weekend from london in april and wanted to watch a boxing match - so joined setanta (he told them it was a one off and only wanted to pay for the minimum period allowed) he had to set up a direct debit and 6 months later and £72 pounds poorer - they have failed to cancel even after numerous letters and telephone calls - he doesnt even live up here so hasnt been able to watch it - surely something can be done to protect people against these criminal practices (what an expensive 3 hour fight)0

I signed up for Setanta with a recurring payment with my bank card.
Last month my card reached its expiry date and I've been issued with another.
Will Setanta still be able to take money from my account?
I would have thought not, as the card number they have is no longer valid, but I'm not entirely sure.
Was going to cancel, but after reading some of the posts here, wanted to make sure they can't take extra money from my account before I do it !!0 -
I notice Money SavingExpert has recently campaigned for better customer services from Setanta and there is now a method of cancellation by email.
requests@setanta.com
(effective 30 days from the next billing date).
If you want to continue with Setanta just ring their customer services with your new Credit Card expiry date.
I found the Setanta operators very friendly and helpful and I'm most grateful to Money Saving Expert for their campaign.
I may switch to Direct Debit in future though as it can sometimes offer extra customer benefits.

If you are tempted to try Setanta for a big fight or footie match - be advised... DON'T! I have been trying to cancel since 8 August when I sent a recorded delivery letter, email and rang them. They continued to take my money so I cancelled the Direct Debit since when they have been ringing every day claiming I owe them money. I even tried to block their number via BT but they still come through. They then say all resolved and note is on my account - and then ring again next day. No notes appear to be made. If you have a second room account - make sure you cancel that in your letter or they will keep that going. As for 30 days' notice - they told me today (09 Oct) it was 60 days and they have the right to change this. I made a 'final payment' just to get rid of them. I hope. My advice - steer well clear!0

47 years on this planet, I have never come across such a bunch of shysters. I have been trying to cancel since May with no success - first, I emailed. I had a Customer Service Rep reply and acknowledge the cancellation. The next 2 months' payments went out from my credit card - then at month 3 it continued - I phoned and they said "we don't take cancellation by email". "Why", I enquired, "did the Customer Services Rep accept it then"? I still have the email trail proving this! They told me to write in for a refund - giving the wrong (Newcastle) address - which they claim never to have received AND I EVEN HAVE PROOF OF POSTAGE. I wrote again to the new Belfast address, then last month I had a talk with Customer Services, and they agreed that the account was now closed and no further payments would be taken. I have just received October's credit card statement... and they have charged me again!!! I don't know whether to laugh or cry but BE WARNED - NEVER EVER ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE DRAWN INTO THE CLUTCHES OF THE SHYSTERS AT SETANTA!!! I am seriously looking at legal action against them - I don't believe it is incompetence, I think they set out to be unethical.0

Setanta sent me an e-mail notification of the price increase, on 24th June. Trouble was that the notification was at the bottom of what appeared to be an advertising e-mail, and went unnoticed until I had reason to search!
This e-mail is central to my dispute with Setanta, as it also contained a link to revised T&Cs which, as the e-mail stated, would become effective in 30 days, i.e. 24th July. I sent a letter on 11th August giving one month's notice of cancellation, as per these T&Cs. Setanta eventually phoned and gave me a cancellation date of 16th November, claiming a 60 day notice period from the next billing date! The CS rep' refused to listen to reason or deviate from the "script" and failed to send me details in writing, as per my request. By this time I had allowed 1 direct debit payment (to cover the 1 month's notice) then cancelled with my bank.
Setanta have failed to respond to my repeated requests for clarification until last week when I recieved a letter threatening that the "debt" may be passed to an external debt collection agency. I plan to write to their address in Newry today formally registering the dispute and firmly placing the burden of proof on them (at least I have a person's name, but still a PO box address).
Does anyone still have the e-mail about the price rise? If so, what is the notice period in the T&Cs that the link takes you to?0
