My 3 month £5 per month trial was due to end so i rung setanta to cancel and they offered me a 2 month extension. I accepted, then my next dd payment was £7.07! I know this is only £2.07 more, but i did not agree to pay more than £5 per month. I cancelled my debit card for an unrelated reason and then they starting ringing me asking for payment. I asked the guy on the phone why they had charged me a random figure of £7.07 and he couldnt answer me. He then told me that the bill after the £7.07 one was £7.50! I asked him if Setanta thought up a random figure to charge their customers each month, he said that i was still getting a good deal at £7.50 per month! Cheeky eh.

I wrote them a letter telling them i wanted to cancel and that i would pay them by cheque for each month, minus the £2.07 that they overcharged me. According to Setanta they never received the letter (what a surprise). I then wrote another threatening recorded delivery letter explaining that i had read many stories of missing letters on forums and that when the guy gave me an extension he did not say it was going to be more than £5 per month and i challenged them to prove that i did agree to it. I told them that i would be paying by cheque as they could not be trusted with my bank details. I finished my letter with this,
"I work for a large firm of solicitors and I will warn you now that if you cause me problems I can get legal advice when ever necessary"

I havent heard from them since and they have cut off my channels, i also took the precaution of recording each setanta channel for a few seconds each to prove that they had disconnected them along with the sky banner at the bottom showing the date and time.

I also took a screenshot of the recorded delivery confirmation off the post office website.

I will never go back to Setanta and i will tell everyone i know not too either.

If anyone wants a copy of the letter i sent then email me brian-cotton@hotmail.co.uk

Good luck and DO NOT GIVE IN to their bully tactics.
• I keep getting calls off Geordies threatening me with debt collection, for the massive sum of £12.99.

What should I do, will they actually do anything if I don't pay??

I have been getting phone calls for about a month from them asking for payment.

i actually cancelled 2 months ago , they still charged me £12.99 after that and so i cancelled my DD on them.

the account is in my husband's name and we just ignore the calls. i can tell when its them, so we just hang up.

we have got a letter (not threathening) asking us to ring them on the 0871 number to pay( cheeky as they actually owe us a refund, which we have given up hopea anyway)

We have always been law abiding, never missed a payment on credit card, but i absolutely refuse to bow down to setanta even if they send me threats(which i think they eventually will).

i know its only £12.99 but its my £12.99 , so am going to keep ignoring them

Let us know what happens danzibar...

Does anyone still have the e-mail about the price rise? If so, what is the notice period in the T&Cs that the link takes you to?

I've still got that email, it does say 30 days notice in the new T &C's

I've just cancelled setanta, I'm hoping I don't have the same problems lots of you have had. :o

• I Lost my rag and just rang my bank and cancelled the direct debit from my account, my bill generally comes on on the 24th of the month so i'm guessing there will be an outstanding amount, i'm willing to pay to get away from these conmen.
Will they contact me to pay the outstanding amount if so can anyone give me advice on what to do?
• Rocky
cancelling your direct debit will simply lead to you missing payments, they will contact you relating to this by a number of mediums, however your account will stay active (I would imagine accruing outstanding monies) until such time as you provide an email or letter with 30 days notice.

HOpe this helps mate
• ive had soo many problems with top up tv not much with the sports channel!
they like to over charge then take ages to refund or like recently didnt refund within 30 days so when i called up to say they hadnt they said that they needed more info on why they over charged and that it woul;d take up to 30 to refund! so fingers crossed i get my £20 back!
i dont know why i bother with them sometiimes but they suckker me back with there free trials!!
good telly tho!
• I signed up in August to the £6.50 offer so could watch England games. Biggest mistake I ever made. Have been trying to cancel for over a month now with no success, but thankfully I did cancel my DD. Have offered to pay to the 30 day date but now they want another 4 weeks. No chance. They state in numerous calls that I can't cancel by email from their website, they don't even acknowledge despite saying they will. Have written but still getting nowehere even though they say have received letter. Have today sent a recorded delivery letter to them, let's see what happens next.

Spoke to someone today who told me to speak to "Donald Duck" if I wasn't happy with him, well thanks DEAN, your now reported too, but doubt it'll do any good.

Don't touch this lot with the proverbial barge pole, they are a set of cowboys!!!!!

Whatever you do if cancelling make sure you cancel DD first.

I cant believe the way this company treats people.

This is a bit long winded but I just had to vent my frustration.

After I was informed that the subscribtion would go up to £12.99 in July, I rang to cancel. Offered a deal to keep my custom of £5 for 6 months, so decided to except.

3 months later an amount of £12.99 gets taken from my account, guess who......yep Setanta.
So I phone up to ask what the hells going on, only to be informed the deal was for 3 months only.
Politely I ask to cancel, but I cant do it by phone so I have to email requests@setanta.com which I duely oblige on the 9th Oct. Asking for confirmation of the email I sent.

Anyway 2 weeks go by and I hear nothing (typical) so I dig out my T&C spelling out that 30 days notice is required and that I would have to write to an address in Newry.

So I do this on the 29th Oct informing them of my disatifaction with there service and inform them of the previous email I had sent.

I ring up two days before my DD is due to expire to confirm that the email/letter had been received etc and confirm that this would be my last payment. This was confirmed by the advisor. Service to be terminated on the 26th Nov. I didnt question this date as I wanted shot of them.

A week after cancelling my DD (6th Nov), ensuring that payment had been taken, my partner receives a phonecall from Setanta, she passes the phone to me and wham.....they'd cut me off.

Today I receive a letter telling me I owe money and if I dont contact them a debt collection agency would turn up at my house within the next 14 days.

So, much as I begrudge spending another penny in phonecalls to this company, I decide to ring them.

The letter is apprently(sp) standard...........so threating people is standard practice for this company.
My subscribtion by my reckoning had until the 5th Dec to run to (DD 6th Nov)
anyway the point is they cut me off on Saturday 22nd Nov which is short of the expiry date of the account.
The reason this happened is because I cancelled my DD...............I said so why cut me off early............there reason is incase my viewing went beyond the 5th Dec, they couldnt request payment. But youd confirmed I had cancelled you prats!!!!

Stay away from this company. Do not be tempted by any of there offers etc.........

Somebody should do an investigation into the way this company operates.

I suspect this isnt the last i have heard from Setanta..........so am seeking legal advice just incase.
