First Direct is my best option and it pays a £100 bonus to open an account.
Got a flyer in the other day from First Direct that said they'd give you £100 for switching your account, and then if you didn't like it, they'd give you another £100. Sounds like they don't want to keep their customers - Imagine paying them to go away! :rotfl:Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
Their current account does not pay interest, however if you have one of their offset mortgages then your balance is netted off against your mortgage. Pretty poor without the mortgage but fantastic with it!0

i was about to apply for first direct mortgage offset...1/2% above base rate however ive been hearing trackers are not direct trackers of baserate anymore ..anyone know why (sorry if a bit off thread!)0

It's funny they found enough power this morning to e-mail me and advise of 'charges to my account' but not enough to let me log in and check what they are for...!!!
:wall:
Funnily enough though i do know, i had a cheque due out on the tenth so went into Abbey on the 9th to pay some cash in to cover it. was told by Abbey that they could only pay it in via machine with my debit card - and typically i only had my paying in book. I went back the next day thinking i still had time with it being a direct payment and cash - only to be told the cashier had made a mistake and you can't pay cash into Cahoot account anymore?!! So now i have got at least one charge on my account (can't check) and no doubt neither bank will take responsibility!
Ok sorry rant over - back to trying to log in...2011 wins so far: Radio Deal package worth £600
Best prizes ever:
Two flights to Tokyo & a years supply of Gas and Electric !!!
Thanks to everyone that posts! :beer:0 -

From first direct website:
'The life tracker mortgage tracks Bank of England Base Rate for the duration of the loan, and therefore your monthly payments will go up or down in line with changes to the Bank of England Base Rate.'
I can't see that there is a minimum rate either so if rates go very low you would benefit all the way, this is worth checking as other trackers I have seen have a minimum rate which they don't go below irrespective of BOE base rate.0 -

Yes, I clocked that as well - they really know how to rub salt in the wounds. It's good to talk - shame they seemed to forget about that for most of the last two days! I've got a spare UPS backup unit in the garage - perhaps I'll mail them and ask them if they want a lend....;)0
