Appreciate that they will have snapshot back up tapes somewhere, but I wonder what would happen if they lost all of the data given that they don't even send statements?
Impossible? I thought a lot of things were until pretty recently...0 -
That First Direct account looks quite inviting now. I'm in the middle of a remortgage though, so will leave it until that is sorted out I think, otherwise there'll be confusion.
Power cuts cannot be used as a valid excuse for a bank. There must be backup power available. Any banking IT setup that doesn't include this should be condemned on the spot. It seems clear that their DR system hasn't been tested before, as 48 hours outage is criminal for a company that exclusively operate online.0 -
Yes, and also if they insist on the power outage as an excuse does this mean we should expect service unavailable for 2 days+ whenever Spain has a powercut?
This it the crux of it; and IMHO totally unacceptable for a current account provider; where customers depend on systems being available for timely processing of direct debits etc.
I'm actually glad they failed to process my savings account application now!0 -

Yep, and not being in a position (for whatever reason) to pro-actively inform customers in a timely and coherent manner is showing that they don't actually care a damn about their customers.0 -

In cahoot's defence, i've been a customer with them a few years now and have found their service to be reliable and quite satisfactory until now.
Not sure how much Santander has had an effect on that, but it would be fantastic if someone senior in their organisation would come clean and give an honest reason for the outage.
In the current climate perception is of the utmost importance. At this moment in time they are not coming across as a trustworthy institution... no matter how many customers or how much cash they may have.0 -
Anyone else hacked off that they still aren't prepared to participate in the Faster Payments scheme, so payments still take an age to get into and out of their accounts?0

If this problem had occurred at a less jumpy time it would have been bad enough, but people are petrified at losing access to their money. It's all very well the chancellor saying their savings are 'guaranteed', but if it takes 3 months to pay up on that guarantee, people will go under. I'll be moving as soon as I can now.0

It's a bloody power cut in Spain. Honestly. How jumpy are people?!
This is stupid. Next thing we know, BBC will report a queue at a petrol station and the whole country will be queueing for petrol.
This is like the old USSR, see a queue, join it.
Pardon people for being annoyed about not being able to access their accounts for 2 days and for being told lies about why it is happening.0 -
The call centre people are now saying they don't know when the website will be up again. Pretty obviously the 'up and running shortly' message on the website for several hours now is just to try to keep the media quiet.
Sorry, Cahoot - you're not going to succeed.0 -
It would be nice to hear from someone in Spain that can actually vouch for this "power cut".0
