Ive just ordered 2 from Primrose London, really hope they work as Im petrified of spiders, and my boyfriend thinks Im falling for a con...
I will try anything, just hope it works! Got 2 cus we live in a big bungalow with an upstairs0 -
My mum read in a magazine a few years back about the conkers idea. I have used them ever since; personally I don't think it works.
I have been getting loads recently as well despite the conkers.
I hate the blasted things so much. I hoover them up as that is the closest I am willing to get to them (entire length of hoover pipe around 4ft). People try to burst my bubble when I tell them that by saying that the spider just crawls out again...no! I say they have a slow death in amongst the dust and dirt (and that is what I choose to believe).
I have had cats/dogs over the years and they have never been interested in getting rid of the critters for me.
On the subject of hoovering...conkers prove a problem when hoovering in the corners (have to be careful not to hoover them up)
As mentioned previously I also spray them with anything to hand to stun them and slow them down <shudders>
I just checked the budget spider repeller on primrose london website, and sadly I cannot get it because we have guinea pigs in the house and it says it is not safe for rodents. Looks like I have to stick to the hoover method for now!0 -
Hiya
Can anyone help PLEASE
How can I get rid of spiders and stop them coming into my flat? They really freak me out and they are getting cheekier and seem to think they can just scuttle in when they like. Even my cat legs it when she sees them.
I was thinking of some nettign / mesh to stop them getting in the open windows and one of those things you plug into the electric socket. Also, a really good knock-out spray because there's no way I can pick them up. Any suggestions where I can find them and which are best? (sorry to any spider lovers out there)

Thanks for moving my post there's lots of useful info. I have just bought 4 (yes 4) of the ultrasonic things from amazon, also buying a large stock of Raid to be within arms reach in each room. Will ask country-dwelling friend to collect conkers for me in Sept. Those hairy legged creepies wont have a chance... thanks y'all, will keep you posted0

We've had a spider repeller for 6 months now and it's worked wonders. It's an ultrasonic and electromagnetic one like vincent81 mentioned, it works through the wiring of the house and really is super!!!! We got ours from http://www.primrose-london.co.uk/spider-repeller-whole-house-p-1277.html although I'm sure you could get one from ebay or amazon
Thank you DebbieP. I have just now ordered one of these. I hope it works as I am repulsed by these little !!!!!!s! I also keep having a problem with ladybirds in recent years over Winter, so would be great if it keeps them out too!0 -
I am also petrified of the ruddy monsters and remember standing on a chair in the maternity unit whilst in labour, until the doctor removed a huge spider that was on the ceiling above the bed.My daughter was born 20mins later so maybe i owe that spider one.
Anyway, i was told to put a copper coin in the corners of the room to deter spiders and i do think it has worked. The spider population has definatly gone down by about 90%.Might be worth a try before you spend out on other methods.

My OH read that certain essential oils keep them away as they don't like the smell.
We have Geranium essential oil on the bedroom window ledge, and Lavender on the bathroom window.
My unscientific assessment is that there's been less screaming, so it's working.....0 -
Hey, I just signed up to post on this. I hadn't had a spider for years then one turned up in my toilet, so I fly sprayed it but since then I've seen so many of the things. there were 2 big ones in my room so I slept downstairs ! My mum then bought me some of this spider repellent spray (made out of conkers) and while it has kept others out it kept the 2 in! I got rid of one of them then I was in bed yesterday and turned around to fluff up my pillow and there was the second one RIGHT in my face, I froze and ran downstairs, and lost the thing. I'm sleeping in the spare room at the moment but tomorrow I'm going on holiday with my dad, so my mums going to move the bed ECT to find it (I'm only 13) and until it's outside or dead I'm not sleeping in there. so yes conkers should work, but get rid of all the ones in the room before hand, other wise all the hidden ones will be forced into view. And also, I'm thinking of buying one of those electric spider repellents, do they work?0

What coins are you using as pennies, two pence pieces, etc, these days have no/very little copper in them - not like the oooold ones did?
Well I bought one of the spider repeller plug-ins from Primrose London a while back (after reading this thread) and have had it plugged in for about a month now. I have seen two spiders in that time, neither of which have been huge (but still rank!) Interestingly though (and might be of no relevance at all) but they've both been on walls rather than floors and they've both been acting quite irratically - fast little bu**ers and have been a nightmare to catch (so the hubby tells me.... I couldn't be in the room at the time :rotfl:) - neither have been in the room where the plug-in is.... soooo, I'm wondering (hoping) they've been irratic because they've not been liking the electromagnetic pulses the plug-in is supposed to be sending out throughout my homes electrical cables.
I shall keep you all updated.... if I see a big 'un I'll be gutted as I'm sooooo hoping this plug-in is working miracles!!0 -
Please help, going to sound half-mad, but I am truly terrified. I moved house a month ago and in the past couple of weeks I have seen lots of big brown spiders. They are not small, I am not scared of small ones but bodys like a 5 p piece size with a head and thick legs and hairy.
Its a private rental so stuck hereand I love it but for these things, I even spoke to my landlady and she told me to find a handsome man!!!!!
Well, found a beast in my wardrobe a fortnight ago, its horrible having to go in there and have been sleeping in dds room ever since.
I keep the bins in my garage so use it everyday, its also a utility room. There are always cobwebs there, never bothered me as I dont mind spiders but am truly truly frightened of the big ones. Today I went in to take my bin out as collection day and I looked up and there was a big thick cobweb so i bravely got a broom and tried to get it down. On the cobweb are brown fluffy things I have a fear they are eggs are nests so I eventually got them down and sprayed with everything I had in the house and then a big black thing went scuttling out of it and as I closed the garage door one fell on my shoulder and down my back and ran for my life into the house....
I threw my clothes off at the back door and am in such a state of fear
These things are truly making me frightened of my home, I hate using the hoover and there is no way I can put one of those things in a glass what the hell do I do (and am dying to know how do the repellents work think i need one)
ps tried conkers as well0
