I have a phobia of spiders too,i have managed to get it somewhat under control for the sake of the kids(didnt want them freaking out like i did) I once managed to pluck up the courage to hold a tarantula in the hope that it would cure me, but it didnt work. I have heard about the conker thing too.
Its worse on damp evenings, they come out more.

    Thanks for the conker tip.
I have been interested in the pest repelant plug in device often found on the bid up tv channel. This device is supposed to emit a frequency via your wiring that pests do not like. Has anybody got some of these and do they work ?
I will be trying the conkers, thanks.

I've still got lots of them.
The conkers is a good idea but we have to wait till autumn to get them!
    Any other suggestions anyone?
  • I suffer from the same problem. There was a horrible moment around November last year when the most Enormous spider scuttled down out of the chimney and raced across the tv screen. I didn't know what to do, it was so huge that I was kind of paralysed - I just ran around in circles yelling 'somebody do something please!' How utterly pathetic, eh? My partner eventually killed it, which I felt irrationally guilty about, but if he hadn't I doubt I'd ever have slept again in this house.

I have a little spider-catcher device that I got from Lakeland, it's the tube with the battery-operated suction feature. The suction is useless and conked out on me after a month or so, but it's still useful for just slamming on top of your average rather petite wall-crawling spider. Beats the cup/piece of paper trick, anyway. The problem is that the worst spiders are too big for it, or they move too quickly.

I'm still looking for a solution myself, but something tells me there just isn't one. I'd like to do some clearing out soon (have wardrobes packed full of junk) but I'm reluctant to go poking around in possible spider hang-outs. My mum thinks I should try hypnotherapy - but I guess I'm a bit cynical about that business in general. Could be worth a try, though.

It's not pathetic at all Red Robin! I'm exactly the same!

Errk OH emptied the hoover today and could see one of the spiders..he remarked 'wow that is a big one'!.....<faint>

I did have a special 'spider plug' that my mum bought me a few years ago that seemed to work. It emitted a high pitched noise that apparently repelled them. God knows what happened to it...think it got lost when we decorated the living room last Christmas:think:

This will sound so cruel but if I see a spider I spray it with the first thing that comes to hand - usually a can of deodarant/shoe stain repellent/hairspray etc etc. House stinks but spider is usually 'frozen' in place and cannot move an inch further! lol

I hate spiders too and invested in a brilliant spider catcher from betterware many years ago.It only cost a couple of pounds and basically it has a long handle and plastic box type thing on the end with a sliding door which you close having caught the little blighter.........

the link above will make you smile though..it makes you face up to this nonsensical phobia,We know its silly but what to do about it?,,,,,,,,,,,,,It seems the link doesnt work.Look for "spider in the bath" on YouTube

When i encounter them i look at them and try and reason with myself what the problem is...i cant explain it to myself, never mind anyone else!

I used to have a fear of needles........and some bright spark suggested visiting an acupuncturist!!
