  • We've had a spider repeller for 6 months now and it's worked wonders. It's an ultrasonic and electromagnetic one like vincent81 mentioned, it works through the wiring of the house and really is super!!!! We got ours from http://www.primrose-london.co.uk/spider-repeller-whole-house-p-1277.html although I'm sure you could get one from ebay or amazon

I am absolutely terrified of spiders and to be honest my OH isn't an awful lot better! We have just moved to a new area and there seems to be a lot of huge spiders around. OH grudgingly gets rid of them, but I really would like to find a way to deter them from coming in the house.

I have seen a plug in thing that claims to get rid of spiders, but it costs rather a lot and I'm not entirely convinced it will work http://www.primrose-london.co.uk/spider-repeller-whole-house-p-6478.html

Does anyone have any experience of this, or have any tips on how I can stop them living in my house? Thanks in advance :)

We have a plug-in device that we use to keep mice at bay. But it also works with spiders. We used to find spiders around at the rate of two or three a week but it is very rare that we see one now. It's not true, though, that they hold their legs over their ears to block the sound out!

These devices are not expensive if you shop around - they're always being sold on the shopping channels - click on:

to see when they're coming up next on bid-tv (but remember that with the auction channels the final cost is about £10 more than the price advertised because of the call-cost and the p&p).
Try looking round the cheap shops like Wilkinsons or even the bargain shelves at Aldi or Netto.

It may be an old wifes tale, but i've heard a conker in each corner of the room keeps them away.
Apparently it's been proven to work as they give off a scent that spiders don't like but i would be a bit sceptical about it!

Get a cat or dog. Most of them seem quite happy to eat spiders :)

Where are they all coming from?

I have a ridiculously bad spider phobia...and isn't it just typical..the minute my OH goes away for a couple of days, they all seem to come out!

Found a massive one last night, and just found another huge one in the kitchen....yikes!

Honestly I can't express just how terrified I am of them...shudder

  • apparently conkers are the way forward. Put one in each room and by your front door. I haven't tried this myself, I'm guessing it has something to do with the smell?!
