I've found the spider threads and merged them all together................and yes it has been suggested to put conkers (from a horse chestnut tree) in your house to deter spiders.;)

  • i have a biiig phobia and im in the loft of a victorian house, i see at least two every day around this time of year makes me shudder look at the other posts, i cant go near them let alone squish them :( i was wondering how long those plug ion repellents work i was thinking of buying the whole house one but im a bit sceptical. aparently thoroughly cleaning your house works but that don't work for my home we're forever cleaning, dogs useless i think you have to train them to catch spiders. we have a 6 year old and he uses pencils to catch them. are there any other ideas?

If you're as evil as me with spiders the red cans of Raid are particularly effective.
I picked a towel off the stairs last month and I SWEAR this huge spider hissed at me as he fell out.
I Raided him, wiped the smile off his face, I can tell you.

I shall be stocking up with conkers though this year, as a more gentle way of getting the message out that they're so not welcome in my house.

Eurgh, my skin is crawling now at the memory :(

LOL, nearly crashed the car today when one of these eight legged beauties decided to dangle off the sunvisor.

It is suprising just how a spider the size of a finger nail appears to be the size of a tarantula when its hanging in front of your nose.

I'm certain that the voice from the TomTom screamed too :o

This sounds really stupid, but with the plug-in repellers, if they really do repel spiders...... as soon as you plug it in and switch it on, would all the spiders run about to get away from it?
I know it sounds ridiculous but I can just imagine plugging it in and an army of previously hidden spiders making a run for it across my living room floor!!

Lol! You know I had that exact same fear when someone told me they hate any music with lots of bass. But fortunately it didn't happen. If you're as paranoid as me you can always take the extra measure of drawing magic protective circles on the floor to stand in before you do it (red Raid works best for this :p ) I always wondered why a particular pub I've been to never had a single web or spider despite being pretty much a cave, so I'm hoping its because they don't like the music. Irate neighbours are much less terrifying Lemon oil is also supposed to be good, rub it along the skirting boards and make a spray of it (+ water I guess?) to spray on your broom when you clean the cobwebs away. I think lemon peel or juice is supposed to have a similar effect but havn't tried this yet.

Ooooh, soooo pleased I'm not alone! Its good to read that people are as petrified of the eight-legged freaks as me! My hubby is getting really concerned that I'll kill myself one day if I ever see one in the car (I've admitted I'd probably crash!!)

Out of those people who do still use (and swear by) the plug-in repeller things, what make(s)/model(s) are they? I don't have much cash to splash on lots of different makes/models so can someone who really has noticed a drop in spiders since they installed one/more in their house let me in on the secret of what make/model it is please :D

I believe most people use the one from the primrose-london website. I've seen it recommended a lot and considering one myself, at least they have a 60 day money back guarantee if it doesn't work!
