    Mortgage-free Glee!
Well today is turning out great!

Congrats to miss pink-winged:T and also to my niece who got her grades and will be going to Cardiff!:T

And my beehive compost bin has just arrived!:T :D

Now I just need to assemble it (not difficult it's in two pieces!) and collect up all the pots I've been putting compostables into! My recycling box can become a recycling box again instead of housing the grass cuttings!

The sun is still out so my bedding is in the WM - just starting to look a little ominous though - may have to spend the night in the spare room if it rains!

Hope you all are having a good one too,

    PO xx:D

  • Morwenna - I think you are very brave. I always need to wash my hair several times before I get over anything icky. Of course, any foulness in the air of the kitchen I automatically attribute to evil cat.

Silvercharming - I'm glad that Dave is feeling better. I never thought of using stardrops as stain removal. I have just thrown out two of my darling husband's shirts as well! His shirts, actually, are all really ready for the rag bag but I haven't managed to persuade him of this fact.

I have managed to acquire two new armchairs, second hand, so I need to be furniture arranging to accommodate them. However, little bear is now finally having a much needed morning nap and I do not want to wake him him as he was so much in need of this sleep. So I am going to start on the avoid using gas and electric thread. Over a thousand posts! Still, at least I can browse that without waking little bear. If I do not post for a few days I am lost in the gas and electric thread, so please come and find me. :p

Don't throw them out until you've tried resurrecting them!
Stardrops is great last-chance stain remover - it doesn't work for everything, but I've found it has worked on some stains that I thought were there forever.
It also revives the colour of whites, if you dilute some with a pint of boiling water and some soda crystals, put it in the washing machine drum and run the hottest cycle the clothes will bear. Don't use any washing powder. Line dry if possible. That can help.
Finally, if the shirts just look 'tired' try starching them then ironing - it puts the shape back in and makes them look newer.
Not that my OH wears shirts too often, but that's kind of the point - I'm not shelling out for clothes that we won't get good wear out of!

    Hello all

Been missing in action for a bit......hope you've all coped without me ......what do you mean you didn't even miss me!!!! ;)

OS is such a way of life here now that I've been concentrating on the "debt free wannabe" aspects of my life - yes I can only cope with one thing at a time :D I've really reworked the budget to suit at the moment, although it will all change again in the next few weeks once we get DH's pay check from his new job. I'm managing to overpay on some of the debt which is great but still allowing ourselves some "fun" money..... currently this fun money is all heading in the direction of our homebrew antics which both DH and I are really enjoying (nice to have a hobby together).

Really enjoying the summer hols, we've not done a lot - mainly due to the weather but when the suns been shining we've made the most of it. DD2 is being tutored 3 hours a week for her 11+ in September and she's had mountains of homework to do to, it's payed off tho and she's done so well, she now stands a fantastic chance of passing the entry test to the school she really wants to go to....money well spent. (she's always had the ability just lacked in confidence due to poor teaching last year). Both DD's are off to my parents for the weekend - a whole 4 days child free!!! :j

I've only got the shoes part of "back to school" to do, did trousers, bags and cardis last month, managed to get DD1 a new school coat yesterday in Next Clearance shop for £15 - it's lovely and thick and long - just what she needs for standing at draughty bus stops in the mid winter.

DD's came up with a plan yesterday of "swapping bedrooms" - perfect oppertunity to get them to sort through everything - clothes, games, toys, paperwork.......they've cleaned, dusted, washed and sneezed their way through it all and have just about finished......a fab way of spring cleaning without my effort!

Hope you're all well and have a fantastic afternoon :D

    afternoon all
    Hasn't it been windy?
Next doors TV ariel is dangling by a wire. She lost her backdoor key this morning and we speculated about locksmiths and then when she went to have her lunch , she found she had put it in the fruit bowl. She is 99 and only just becoming forgetful. Luckily her daughter is there quite often.
I made chicken soup this morning for lunch and added some cheap noodles and it was quite good and filling.
DD just phoned me with her A level results...3 B's so she will be definitely going to Uni next month :j
I bought one of those solar panels from Maplins a couple of weeks ago (they were half price at £50) and have been making a little box to put all the bits in. Now it is out in the coldframe(incase of rain) with two batteries attached and charging, and my mobile phone is grabbing free electricity.
Im determined to get maximum use from it.
It only has small 12 volt batteries at present, enough to power a mini TV and charge a usb charger or the phones and a CD player but I might get a bigger battery at some point to get more use from it. I was hoping it would charge the laptop but the batteries are not powerful enough hence maybe getting a bigger one.
Our tomato plants are just beginning to get red fruit on. They are cherry tomatoes this year so although a lot of fruit is ready, it is only about one meals worth at a time.
the potatoes are doing very well though. This year I earthed them up with the grass mowings and they are so much easier to dig up.
    bye for now

it's not just the beach they are going to charge people who use boat's to get near as well, plus they have shut most of that end of the seafront plus adjoining roads
and they still haven't made enough money:rotfl: as they have spent so much this year on fencing, security ect as of last friday they had to sell another 140,000 tickets just to cover what they have spent
an average family of 5 visiting it would be £25 tickets ,£10 park and ride,
about £10 bus fare, and thats before you get in and no I'm not going:D

Nope, nor me. Keeping well out of it!! What amazes me is that every year you hear about how many millions it is supposed to be bringing into the town - well what on earth have they ever done with it?? I think our Council need a good kick up the backside to be honest, and some new fresh councillors who are actually interested in the town & residents, rather than trying to make themselves look good. I got in & out of town by 10am, but I think the fact that they are closing the entire seafront road for the 4 days too is a cheek!!! it's such an inconvenience having a townful of people who live here getting in the way of these events..... (bah humbug, lol!) I did hear mention of people who were going to walk along the beach once the tide had gone out as a protest?

I tend to go further up, near Treasure Island & watch from there. I saw signs saying it was £5 to view from your car up at Beachy Head too   Welcome to rip-off Eastbourne, lol!!!!!

Anyway, sorry, went completely off topic with that - it doesn't wind me up at all.

Congratulations Miss Pink, Miss Culpepper, Miss PoppyOscar Niece - and everyone else getting results today!! How exciting (next Thurs for my DD's GCSE's :) )

I have been to the gym (omg, I am sooooo unfit) and had a swim, now contemplating weightwatchers recipes in the booklets, (or I will be) and then maybe to Mr T's this evening (once we are allowed to drive on our roads again).

I made up for my laziness yesterday morning, in the afternoon I cooked up loads of mince and made up 2 shepherds pies, 3 portions of bolognaise and 6 portions of chilli. Today when I get back am going to make some quiches as have some eggs that need using up. As the weather looks good will also wash hall runner and bath mats.

how much mince did you use to make all that and did you put any thing in to fill it out?
